Right now like everyone else said there is nothing to do right now. My cousin was J. injured in afghanistan as well about 3 weeks ago and they flew him to Germany and he is at BAMC in san antionio. Until you find out where he will go after Germany (they will usually fly them into the states for the surgeries and recovery) It might take some time to get all the info you need to be able to send anything. Prayers is all you can do now. It is crazy over there right now.

If his family members will be flying to Germany and then on to other hospitals, as is often the case, then organize a team that will take care of things at home while they're gone: pet sitting, going into the house to turn lights on and off and water plants, collect and forward mail, mow the lawn, notify newspapers to stop delivery for awhile, etc. They should not have to worry about any of that stuff while they're with their loved one in the hospital.

Make sure they go to the Wounded Warrior Project website and register. There are a lot of programs there.

Really....probably aside from some nice cards/motes....money. Phone cards, money.....will be useful keeping him in touch with his family when & if he's able to communicate.

Hey--maybe some Mamapedia members could adopt him???

There is a group called Soldiers' Angels located in San Antonio, TX. They have a store where you can purchase care packages, etc. They have a Wounded Warrior pack that is $75.

You can also scan their store page for various ideas. The best part of ordering from them tho is that they handle the customs forms, etc.

There's not much you can do for him right now, but hope and pray that he will be okay.

For the family you can call them and tell them you are thinking of them, and his friend, and ask if there is anything you can do. Does his family live close to you? If they do you can ask if you can make a meal for them.

J. be there for support, it's the biggest thing you can do to show you care.

I hope that your friend will be okay, I have been there myself and it isn't easy, waiting to find out is the hardest part of it all..

Best wishes and hugs through this time.

Right now he needs your prayers. If he has family that will be going to stay with him you may want to consider their needs, cash and international phone cards. It is very hard, emotionally and physically for loved ones in this situation. And they can use the money how they see fit for his needs.

God bless him and his family.
