Hi! My husband is turning 40 this month! Any ideas of what me and the kids could do to celebrate? We want to give him a "hard time" about turning 40 too. Any fun ideas for presents? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

We gave my hubby a wake...kids made a coffinn cake, dressed in black,we made headstones our of styrofoam..the whole nine yards to decorate by the food & did a buffet for his friends...then we did ulogies of Dad (while he could hear them & one of his friends was in on it & did one too!) Except for food it was cheap & people still laugh about it...but hubby always said he had a premonition he would not make it by 35 so we had to "get him" on it as it were when he reach the ripe old age of 40

My brother did something really fun for his wife's 40th. A group of family and friends met at the mall. He then divided us into equal teams. He gave us all $20 and a letter that spelled F O U R T Y. Your group had 1 hour to shop for gifts that started out with your assigned letter (ie: umbrella and underwear; frame and french fries) We then met all together and had desert and shared our mall finds. It was a lot of fun. You could spell out their name etc., give more or less money to fit your budget. The groups all had a great time running from store to store and agreeing on how to spend their $20. None of the gifts was fantastic but it was really fun to see how creative people could be. While we were shopping, my brother too his wife into her favorite store and let her buy something from him. My sister-in-law said it was her most fun birthday ever.

Hi C.,

When my dad turned 50, the weekend before his actual birthday my mom had arranged for a whole bunch of friends to meet them at his favorite restaurant for dinner and a party there. He loved that, and they all gave him gag gifts.

I suppose depending on how good a sense of humor he has, you could dress the kids up like old people and have them hold up signs saying "Happy 40th Dad" or something to that effect and have the photos put into a collage or blown up.

I did something similar for my husband for father's day with our son. We went different places and he held up signs saying "Happy Father's Day, Daddy 2008" and I had them put into a collage photo from Snapfish. Not all that expensive and now he's got a cute litte reminder of why he loves being a dad.

For my 40th birthday, my sister wrapped 40 presents and hid them around the house and throughout the party that they gave me, I looked for presents and opened them. They ranged from a Yoga outfit to wrinkle cream, etc.

I want to eventually give my 5 & 7 year old keyboard lessons. What do you charge? We live in Gilbert. Do you come to clients' homes or do we go to you?

Hi C., For my mom's 60th bday, we had just moved here from CA the year before so we didn't have any family or friends close by so throwing a big party was not an option. So I snuck in her computer and printed off all her xmas address labels, sent a letter to all 200+ of her friends and family and told them to please send me a card, letter, picture, etc including a story or memory that they had of her. I enclosed a return address label to make sure they sent them to me and not to her. Over the few months before her bday, I collected them at my house and then put them unopened in a nice basket to present to her on her bday. she had a good time opening them and reading all that was sent to her. This may be a nice thought if you have friends and family that are not close by. Good luck and have fun!

I think that a poker party is always a lot of fun and guys dig it. You could do a texas hold'em tournament with prizes for the top three.

For fathers day I rented the "game truck" its a simi-truck that is converted to a game room of sorts. leather couches and big flat screen tvs and all kinds of video games (x-box, wii, playstation etc). My hubby and his other "dad" friends had a blast.

If you want to give him a hard time; then find things like a cane, and brochures for dentures and stuff like that. Maybe make him a dinner of soft foods (cause you know at his age it is hard to chew). Then at the end give him something totally fun and athletic to show him the turning 40 is not old and he can still "do" things.

My dad's 60th we gave him adult diapers, a walker, denture cup, cut out adds from the paper and magazines for "geriatric" items and a lot of other items I can't remember. At the end of the party he received water ski's and a trip to the lake. We had such a blast!
