Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for a 1st birthday party? I want something that will be memorable, at my house, not too-too expensive. I am just curious what other people have done. Thanks!

What can I do next?

We just had our son's first birthday party at our home. I ordered pumpkin decorating kits & Thanksgiving photo frame kits from Oriental Trading cataloge to occupy the kids ages 3+. It was a big hit. We also had a neighbor do face painting as well. We limited the party to 3 hours & it was just right as everyone is pooped after chasing around their kids for the duration of the party!

I can not say that I had a great idea for my daughter's first birthday party - I had an early (4:00PM) buffet dinner (21 people showed up!). Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves - except for the birthday girl. She was overwhelmed, cranky - too much commotion! She didn't enjoy dinner, opening her gifts, or even the cake!

If I had to do it all over again, I would keep it small, simple, and short (a 1 year olds attention span is very small).

Good luck.

Hi K.,
I just had my son's 1st Birthday party in July. We did a barnyard theme- I ordered some stuff from oriental trading company (which you can look up on-line and search by theme). I had inflatable farm animals, bean bag farm animal party favor...then color coordinated balloons and streamers. I scattered the farm animals about the house and yard..it was really cute. The food was easy, burgers-hot dogs- pizza...We had some games to play for the older kids and a pinata filled with candy. Anyway, it's an isea,,Good luck with whatever you choose...and be sure to take it all in-it only happens once!

We had a pizza party (inexpensive-$60 for twenty people) and hired a music teacher ($100 for infants/toddlers to do an hour class. We had ages 8 months to 5 years and all loved it.
