I have always made mine using a program called Paintshop Pro 9...that way you can add the theme of the party to the cards as well as a pica nd just print them up at walmart or walgreens! :)
I'm throwing a party for my daughter who's turning 5 nest month. I wonder what can I do to make her birthday invitations look unique. Some said I should go try printing postcards for that. What do you think?

For my daughter's 5th birthday, I had invitations printed at Party City. I don't remember the cost, but it wasn't that bad, and was definately a time-saver. They turned out great.
I usually hand make my kids invites. I just get an idea by searching online (or my own idea) and I go to michaels craft store and get everything I need and make it myself. They turn out really cute that way
I like uploading a picture of your child to an evite.

I used this website to order my daughters invitations. They were made so I could print them on my own cardstock so it wasn't expensive at all. I also got matching water bottle labels and cupcake toppers that matched. I got lots of compliments from all the guests. Have fun with your planning!
I just ordered my son's invites at www.zazzle.com. They were super cute and only $7 (with promotional codes). I chose a picture design so those that can't come will still get to see how much he's grown, but they have tons and tons of designs. Happy Birthday to your little one!
Message in a bottle? CD invite where you can either hear her voice with the invite or even a video invite? A picture of her holding a sign that says "You are invited to my party" and all the info on the back?
Do you have a theme?
Definately need to know your theme. I make all of my daughter's invitations..some times stamped, some times a compilation of stamping, printing, coloring, and always layering. This year, since her party is the day before Easter, we are having an egg hunt. The invitation is printed on white card stock, it is the silhouette of 2 bunnies facing a pink egg, the invitation wording is printed inside the egg. I cut the card stock, mounted it on black card stock about 1/4 " larger than the white, and then mounted that on pink card stock about 1/4" larger than the black. This year's invitation was super easy...the clip art was found for free online, I saved it to my thumb drive, used a p'd to make a word document dropped the image in, typed the invitation up in the egg and started printing. (2 to a page) Last year we had Mad Science at her party, the invitation was this cool blue tri-folded card stock with yellow caution stickers on the outside, inside I had printed and cut to fit white card stick with the invitation wording and again ..free clip art of a child scientist standing at a table of test tubes etc..the year before..we had a magician, that invitation was a little more involved. I constructed flat black card stock top hats that had real red ribbon trim, and a pocket...that was actually a slit in the middle of some gold glittery card stock that was the oval to look like the inside opening of the top hat. Next I printed a large white bunny(clip art from online), cut the bunny out, made a little red polka dot party hat for his head, used an exacto knife to cut little slits under his front paws, printed an invitation, cut it to about 3 1/2 x 5 size, slipped it under the bunny paws so it looked like he was holding it in front of his belly, (secured it with a dot of glue under each paw) and then slid the whole thing down into the top hat through the slit in the gold glittery center so you only saw the bunny ears....when you pull the rabbit out of the hat.....VIOLA...a party invitation.. Good luck & have fun with it!
