Hi Mamas,

We are having 8 kids over today after school ranging in age from 2-10. I need a fun and healthy snack that won't cost a fortune and won't take a ton of time to make. Any ideas?

Thanks!

What can I do next?

My Grandma used to cut up apples (the size that an apple slicer would make), take two pieces and put peanut butter one side of each slice, put them together to make it look like lips then stick mini marshmellows in the peanut butter to look like teeth. They were little apple mouths. We loved them. Below is a pic of someone who made them.

You could cut up lots of different fruit into bite sized pieces and let them make fruit kebabs. With the little ones you could do this with supervision or have them string the fruit onto something not sharp, like popsicle sticks.

You could get coldcuts, like cheese squares, summer sausage, and crackers and the them make cracker stackers.

You could make homemade popsicles out of juice in ice trays or pudding or yogurt pops with dixie cups and popsicle sticks.

Take ice cream cones and put yogurt or vanilla pudding in them. You can add some fruit too. It's yummy and fun for the kids.

Weight watchers ice cream sandwiches.
Take a graham cracker, split it in half, put cool-whip in between, and freeze. They're best in chocolate.

The most popular in our neighborhood among kids? Watermelon wedges. Not too creative, but the kids LOVE it. Sam's Club has HUGE watermelons for $5.50 currently.

Or, strawberry shortcakes. Get canned biscuits, fresh strawberries, slice, Put on top of the biscuits with whipped cream (all is naturally low carb but not low fat/calorie).

Ants on a log: celery with either peanut butter or cream cheese in the crease, then marshmallows or raisins or peanuts or goldfish crackers...

Fruit dippers: cut up fresh fruit and have a few dips for the kids to try... yogurt, peanut butter, etc.

Jell-O jigglers (always fun!) with pretzels

We make mini banana muffins from a banana bread recipe. These are super easy and really cheap. Kids love them! Couple minutes to mix the ingredients and about 20 minutes to bake.

Other crowd pleasers here include celery sticks with either peanut butter or creamcheese topped with either raisins or nuts.

When i taught the kids favorite was banana pops. I had the kids break into groups i put mixed ages together so the older ones could help the little ones.
One group made vanillia pudding, one crushed the rice krispies one cut the bananas in half. Then each child was given a plate with a banana,a scoop of pudding, some cerea,l and a craft stick or spoon to make the banana popscile. First the kids peeled their banana, then they put the banana on the stick, then rolled it in the pudding, then rolled it in the cereal. Sounds complicated but it isn't. Another one is cut up celery let the kids spred peanut butter on it then add raisin ( ants on a log). Another favorite is take plain yougart have the children add their favorite fruit or toppings.
