I just purchased and signed up for Juice Plus gummies. It seems that anything that is going around such as colds or flu my grand daughter (19 mos.) gets sick with it and brings it home to me. I have started taking vitamins to help boost my immune system but, she won't eat her JP+ gummies. My grand daughter loves meat but does not eat sweets, fruit, or veggies. She will eat potatoes and we can hide a few veg. in it but if she finds out she will refuse to eat anymore. Can any of you think of a way I could get her to take these vitamins? I gave them to my grandson when he was little he had RSV and I think it is the one thing that cured his respiratory problems. So, I would really like to help my grand daughter boost her immune system. She spit the red one out and tried to feed it to the dog. This might be good for my dog but it was not my plan. Help please! Hi, K.!
I too tried to give my kids the JP+ gummies to no avail. One would eat the fruit (red) one, but avoided the green like the plague. The other wouldn't touch either. I found an alternative gummy at Whole Foods. They are called Yummi Bears and they do have a whole food version (so the same as JP+). They also have an Omega 3-6-9 version which is great. Since she isn't into sweets you may just want to keep these in mind for later as they are shaped like Gummy Bears and have, I would say a minimal, sweet flavor. Both of my kids took to them immediately so it wasn't because they all of the sudden grew into vitamins. They simply preferred these. This is an awkward way to describe it, but they just have a lot less taste to them. For my kids, that works! Hope that helps!

I am also a grandma. It is a game of outsmarting these clever little ones. Will she drink a smoothie. Maybe you can blend the gummy into a smoothie.

I give my 2 little kids Herbalife's kids multivites. They love them. The great thing about the Herbalife's Multivites is there is no food coloring or dyes in them. Also no sugar. If you want to check it out, I have a website www.shopherbalife.com/O..

I don't know anything about JP+ so I don't know if it comes in other colors than red or not. Try just giving her the other colors. Do they come in drops for babies? Liquid drops in her juice or something might be the way to go.
What about food coloring in mashed potatoes? You can color them green, pink, yellow, red... and hide mashed carrots, mashed corn, mashed green veggies... Let her see you putting the food coloring in a few times so she knows you're coloring them purposely. Maybe she won't notice the extra flavor. Hopefully, anyway!

My son is around the same age and is also getting a bit fussy about what I can put in his mouth. My pediatrician says it's expected at this age for them to assert themselves and their independence through food (my son will no longer eat cheese that isn't yellow...go figure).

Try melting the gummies with hot water and adding to juice or getting the capsules that you can mix into fluids or oatmeal and yogurt.

Aside from washing hands and all of that other basic stuff, we saw a noticeable decrease in illness when I started regularly using disinfecting wipes (like the Clorox kind you use on countertops) to wipe down door handles, phones, remote controls, car keys, baby gate handles and light switches. One wipe does most of that and takes 5-10 minutes. My son seems to always have gummy hands and touches those items frequently and my husband and I also touch them frequently.

Hope this helps!

Hi K.! I am a stay at home Grandma also. I have my 17 mos old granddaughter 4 days a week, and have raised her 8 yr old brother. I love them and enjoy it. The baby is a bit of a fussy eater as well. One thing I have found that is wonderful, is that she loves my chocolate protein drinks that I drink in the morning. I happen to use Isagenix and mix it with ice in a blender. But I imagine any protein drink would do. They are loaded with vitamins and nutrients. It is good for her and she absolutely loves it, especially since Grandma is drinking it and she wants to share. I give her some in her own cup with a straw. It is amazing how much she will drink. If you load yourself up with antioxidants and vitamins and such, your immune system will improve and you won't catch so much from her.

Hi K.. I am amazed at all of the crud that goes around with the little ones myself. I don't know if there is a cure-all, but I found a great supplement line that tastes great, is very safe and effective, and is easy to take. My whole family takes the supplements every day and my daughter even will throw a tantrum if we run out! I have noticed a tremendous drop in the frequency that we are getting sick and its helped my and my daughter's allergies. If you are interested, email me at ____@____.com and I can give you more info. Good luck! I know being sick and/or being around a sick little one can be miserable.

Hi K.,
Have you tried cutting the gummies up and hiding them in food. Over time she will program her taste buds to like these foods and will crave them and will eat her gummies. It can take 10-12 exposures for children to like a new food and JP is just that....food.

Have you considered JP for you, it's proven to support the immune system. The is a study on an older population and is helped their immunity. I don't recall any studies on vitamins doing that.

Check out www.mydoterra.com/sharontheoils. Look up On Guard blend. All it will take is one drop on the bottom of her feet. You can rub each foot with a little veggie oil first. Use it yourself on the bottom of your feet, too. You could put 2 drops in 1 cup of warm water and gargle, then swallow. It can be a little strong; there is clove bud oil in it, but it sure kicks the bug.
If you are at all interested in a home "first aid kit" that is totally natural, look up the Dr. Mom kit. You'll be able to learn what each of the nine oils and blends can do for your family and how you can help them when no doctor is immediately available, or until you CAN see your health care professional.
Super bug killer- 3 drops On Guard
3 drops Oregano
3 drops lemon
put in a veggie cap 3 times a day at the onset of a cold or flu.WOW!
Oregano is a very hot oil, and most people can't handle it in their mouths. You can rub these oils on the bottom of the foot, too, with a carrier of oil for little ones. One drop of each on the bottom of the foot. doTerra oils are the most pure oils out there and can be taken internally without worry. You will be advised which are for topical use only, though. Good info if you're interested!

K.,

Do the parents of your grand daughter know that you are trying to give her these? I would be pretty mad if my mom or mother-in-law just decided to give my children something without our permission.

Washing hands frequently is better than any vitamin I know of.

I'd try different vitamins. Target and King Soopers both sell a generic of Flintstones Complete. Our boys both take them with no problem. As far as getting her to eat a more varied diet to get the vitamins and minerals naturally, I agree with the post that says she eats what is served. Our rule is if you don't eat at meal time, there is no snack later. I think the boys both just missed one or two meals before deciding that wasn't worth it. Now we just say they can be done when they eat 2 or 3 bites, depending on the moment. Usually they eat all they're served. Our family really likes the steam fresh veggies. I don't remember who makes them, but they cook perfectly and taste good. I cook for 6 people, and one bag is the perfect amount. There's never any left overs, and I don't add butter, salt, or anything. We also leave veggies ready to eat at an easy to reach shelf in the fridge. Carrot sticks are a favorite. Strawberries and grapes are some other favorites. I just read an article today that suggested starting with a kids favorite color and going from there. I wish I could remember what magazine I was reading. They had a list of foods by color. Anyway, GL!

I've not given gummy vitamins to my children, but I've always thought the sugar in them probably counteracts the good that the vitamins would do.

I've found some success hiding healthy things in food from "The Sneaky Chef" by Missy Lapine. She has some purees that she then will add to different foods. My sister and I have both found that we had to alter some of the recipes that are made from scratch (there's a good granola bar recipe for instance, but it was too oily so I doubled the oats and left out some of the oil). But it's still worth looking at. I particularly liked the white puree in spaghetti sauce and the green puree in meatballs (but they can be added to other things too).

I also really like Airborne for myself, along with vitamin A, C, zinc, and echinacea. Good luck!

HI K. -- I'm a big fan of JuicePlus, having taken the capsules for a long, long time and suffering only a cold every couple of years or so. My 21-month old daughter will not chew on any gummy fruits or vitamins and is also a very picky eater. I was only able to get veggies in her for a long time by mixing them into meatloaf. For instance, I finely grate a fresh carrots and finely mince about 1/4 cup of frozen spinach and put that into a meatloaf. If you use crushed whole grain crackers and a little ground flax seed you're really adding alot of nutrition. She loves it and we all end up eating a little better.

I've also heard that you can open the JuicePlus capsules (fruit and veggies) and just mix them into whatever your little one will eat (yogurt, applesauce, oatmeal) and you're adding fruits and veggies that way.

As for giving supplements always discuss it with the Pediatrician first.

As for the not eating fruits and veggies it is time to quit catering to her picky eating, sorry but it is so true. Now she can eat what is served or nothing at all, serve the meat and potatoes after she has eaten sufficient veggies, period. She will not starve, she has taught you that she will only eat certain things and it is not okay to cater to her bad eating habits. Sounds like she is kind of running the show..

It is great she hates sweets but she is not getting good nutrition at all with just meat and potatoes and even with a supplement it is not okay to allow her to be picky, she won't allow herself to starve, she won't. Keep snacks minimal, have her come to the table hungry. Of course her immune is low with not getting vitamins.

You can try juices with veggies in them like V8 Splash.
You can add to her diet Pediasure to ensure some nutrition but I say to solve your problem is stop the bad eating habits.

As for you, take Airbornne, I do child care and I swear by it. The second I am around someone sick I take one a day for two days, if I am feeling like I am coming down with something I take two a day for three days. It helps big time

KIds get sick it is good for their immune system but the fact she is with you four days a week and not in daycare I would worry about her eating and that should help her tremendously.

My son hated the gummies too. Juice Plus has chewables that are a little tart you could try. They also have less high fructose corn syrup or no and the gummies do have it. I would try something from Whole Foods - they have some high quality vitamins for kids as well made with whole foods like Juice Plus as well. Also, you could try getting extra fruits and veggies in her diet by pureeing and mixing them in with other foods. Here is a link to some books on Amazon that have good recipes for doing so:

I did not see your granddaughters age listed so I am just basing this response off of what I do with my kids.

First, keep offering the vitamins, fruits, veggies and whatever else she doesn't eat. If you put it in front of her enough she will realize you won't stop. I have 4 kids and each one goes through spurts when they refuse to eat certain foods, but my rule is eat what is given to you or nothing. It may sound harsh, but it works and now my kids know the rule and the consequences of not eating their meals (even my 2 yr old!).

I recommend that you try taking zinc, vitamin c & echinacea to help boost your immune system. They will all help keep you from getting extremely sick. I take echinacea at the first sign of getting sick and it helps cut my sick days from 3-4 down to 1, if any at all.

Hope that helps. Have a GREAT day!

For what it's worth, your granddaughter's vitamin doesn't do your dog any good, either! Dogs (and other pets) need to be kept from all kinds of people vitamins or medicines. It can make them quite sick. So don't let her do that.

As far as your little one is concerned, perhaps there's another type of vitamin she will accept. The eating/not-eating is a battle you can't really win - you just have to wait it out. Check with her pediatrician - she's not the only picky eater the doctor has for a patient. But you take your vitamins and get enough rest!

Kind regards from another grandma!

I am also a grandma who feeds my grandchildren Juice Plus Gummies, Chewables and shakes. My daughter also takes Juice Plus capsules and is happy to have her children on Juice Plus because of the wonderful differences she has seen in their health. If your grandchild won't eat the Gummies, you could try the Chewables or the shakes or opening a capsule and putting it in her juice, etc.

Do know that Juice Plus products are not "vitamins" but are whole food. They are 7 fruits and 8 vegetables and 2 grains that have been juiced and dehydrated and put in to a Gummie, Chewable, capsule or shake form. They come with a food label that is regulated by the FDA, whereas vitamin supplements do not and are not regulated by the FDA. So, with a vitamin pill, you don't really know if you are getting what is on the label or not. In a recent test by a Consumer Lab, published by MSNBC and on TV a couple of weeks ago, about 30% of the vitamins tested did not contain what they said and some even had lead in them.

And, No the Gummies do NOT have high fructose corn syrup in them, as someone else mentioned. They do have a little bit of regular corn syrup to improve the flavor.

When trying to get kids to eat fruits and vegetables I always compare it to letting them ride in my car with a carseat/seatbelt. I would not consider letting them ride without a carseat/seatbelt. I will also not consider letting them go without fruits and vegetables which provide them with the nutrients they need for good health. Dr. David Katz,M.D., Director of Yale University Medical Research Center says "children are more harmed by poor diet that by exposure to alcohol, drugs and tobacco combined." Dr. William Sears, M.D., of Baby Talk and Parenting magazines and author of over 30 child development books, says that "over 70% of disease is preventable through good nutrition" Both of these doctors have their whole families on Juice Plus and recommend it to their patients and to everyone else.

You are definitely on the right track with the Juice Plus, but you need it for your immune system as much as your granddaughter does.
Talk to your distributor if you have other questions, or you can contact me.
Enjoy the time you get to spend with that grandbaby! :-)

My son never really cared for the gummy vitamins either. I asked his pediatrician and he gave me a prescription for chewables with flouride. I don't know if that would make a difference for her but the texture is different. Have you tried Flintstones?
