I'm weird... let me get that out of the way! :) Now that we have established this minor detail let me explain why. I have sensitive eyes as it is. There are certain lines of cosmetics I can't use. I thought I had found a great one and it has been working for me for a few years now, but I am starting to get that itchiness around my eyes again. Which means... I've developed an allergy to it. About 6 years ago I was a vegan and I used only the most natural products. I was using this line called Earth Science... loved it!!!! However, I developed a sinus infection and that triggered me to become allergic to the skin product... this is where my weirdness comes in! I just recently got over a head cold... now I'm becoming allergic to Origins eye make up. I don't or can't use most of the cosmetics in the malls because they contain lead. I LOVE Mac colors but I am VERY allergic to their stuff.... anyone have any luck with the pigments in say Whole Foods or Henrys??? Anyone with sensitive eyes have any recommendations? Thanks!

So What Happened?

Thank you for the responses. I will try out some of the ones I can get at the health food stores and see if they work. Unfortunately, I'm not a patient person to order things from a catalog and wait for them to be delivered so that won't work for me. The eyeball itself never itches, just the skin around it and I had started to notice the itching a while back... just seems to be more pronounced now after my cold. Thank you again! :)

it would be worth the drive to Fullerton to Belly Sprout. Talk directly with Christy Funk. she's the owner and an expert in non-toxic organic skin care and make up. She carries lots of products and colors there and has done tons of research on the chemicals, fragrances, and additives that are commonly found in conventional products!
Her website is www.bellysprout.com

Good luck!

Hey Jenn,
Have you tried Bare Minerals? They have a nice selection of colors and are mineral based. The only product in their line that contains parabens is the mineral veil, which can easily be substituted for any other powder.
There is also Dr. Hauschka products which also has an extensive line and is available at most health food stores. His products are also mineral based.

Hi J., boy do I hear you loud and clear. I'm weird too!

For years I wore makeup, trying product after product, but everything made my eyes burn. Not just get red and itchy, but actually feel like they were on fire! Honestly I think I tried everything out there, nothing felt good sooo...I just stopped wearing makeup. I KNOW! Crazy! But you know what? I did that about 4 years ago and I feel amazing! I just had my 40th birthday and I can say I have been "cosmetic free" for over 3 years. It is so liberating to know that even if I wanted to wear makeup I can't so I don't and I just go out as me... plain, beautiful-from-the- inside out me.

Now I did find a line of skin fitness products (cleanser, toner, cream etc) that are natural and don't hurt my eyes (http://liveitdontdiet.isagenix.com/us/en/skincare_overvie...) but as for make up, I don't do it.

Want to know how far I took the "no make up thing"? My husband and I renewed our vows 2 years ago, on a cruise with Rev Dr Micheal Beckwith, you know spiritual leader of Agape in Culver City and featured teacher on the movie the Secret? Right. Full blow renewal of vows...and me...au natural! It was amazing...I cried and didn't even care.

I highly recommend it to ALL women.

**On a side note, there are SOOOOOO many chemicals, preservatives and ingredients KNOWN to cause all kinds of deadly illnesses found in our makeup, it was actually easier to let go (and stay away) once I began to educate myself.

Let me know if you need any support.

Have you tried the brand Almay?
My Mom, who has allergies, uses it and it does not irritate her eyelids like most cosmetics and the more expensive/high end brands.
And you can find it at any drugstore/Longs/etc. and its hypoallergenic.

Their website is: www.almay.com

Good luck,

What a bummer about your allergies to make-up. That must be very difficult! I don't have that concern but I am very particular about what I use on my skin and I've found that the Eminence line is wonderful! Primarily I use their skin care line but I know they carry cosmetics as well. Their products are completely organic (imported from Hungary) and they have several options for different skin types. I discovered the brand through a local spa but I've since found a website that offers a better price: www.buynaturalskincare.com .
Sorry, I'm having trouble creating the link but give it a go if you're interested. They also have a pretty extensive line of samples to try before you buy.

Good luck with it!

If wearing makeup is important to you, maybe you should consult a dermatologist to see what brands they recommend for you personally. I am not able to wear any eyeshadows and enjoyed wearing lipsticks until about 4 months ago, when my face swelled after applying lipstick. The doctor said that my system is too sensitive to use any cosmetics, or skin care lines due to the fragrances and ingredients. Same thing for soaps with scents or even burning candles in my house. I miss those things, but I am hesitant to use anything now for fear that it will make me itch or swell up.

I agree you could have gotten some bacteria in your make-up as opposed to developing a new allergy. I do suggest trying out Arbonne though. I have extremely sensitive eyes, my sisters too & it has worked for us. They've been making pure & safe, botanically based products for 30 years & they are certified Vegan, too. They have a 45 day money back guarantee, too so you could try it out. You can contact me if you'd like more info.

Most people are not aware of the lead and mercury along with other ingredients that just should not be touching your skin let alone get into your eyes.

How about Aveda products? My only complaint is that the pigments are not very strong (if you like MAC, then Aveda is probably a little too subtle for your skin). Worth a shot, though!

Hi! I am weird too! I also was a vegan until I had a major medical crisis. I only eat organic and I don't eat out. I am super sensitive to any chemicals. I don't use any chemicals in my home, only natural stuff. The only treat I get is Whole Foods deli, which I must say is really good and offers just about anything you can get. I went out to eat dinner with ladies from Church on Friday night. We went to Olive Garden and I just watched them eat. I ate at home. It doesn't bother me now, but it did at first. Now, that stuff doesn't even taste good and I really don't like having a puffy face, swollen feet and a headache. I'll stick to the good stuff. So, bottom line, I get it. I would never put any of that stuff on my face. Not only does it contain lead, it contains perfumes and other things that are a major irritants.

Sounds like you have candida issues and probably something I just heard of. It is called full barrel syndrome. I saw a video clip about it on Facebook.

So, I have a DVD that you should watch. This company has the best facial care and makeup. No exageration. I know everyone thinks theirs is the best. I have been to the factory and know a lot about the owner and his standards. He jokes around about the lipstick he makes. He says, "You know why I make good lipstick? Because I eat it." He is being funny. He means he eats it when he kisses his wife. But, on the serious side, he talks of his grand children and his family and he says he doesn't want to poison them. His toothpaste is good too.

Enough said, you can learn more on the DVD. It is free. I will send it to you. I just need a promise that you will watch it and return it to me.

God Bless!

J.

Hello J..
I also have the same problem with allergies. I use products from the YoungBlood Mineral makeup line. (Sold at Macys)They are wonderful & they have beautiful colors. Its kind of expensive but worth it. I use the loose powder eyeshadows & face makeup. All you need is a few dabs on the brush & it spreads nicely. I use makeup everyday without reaction & without having to continuously buy new stuff. If used properly it will last for well over a year!!
I also tried DaVinci mineral products. Also very good!! They used to have a cart at the Northridge mall but I haven't seen it in a while. But For sure they have a cart at the Glendale Galleria.

Hi J.:)

You are not weird, you are smart about your own body! Few of us are.

I know of a line of make up that is totally natural: Nicole Miller. It can only be purchased through Melaleuca. Their products are all totally natural, non-toxic, and environmentally safe. If you'd like more information, I would love to share.

I have sensitivity issues too (although not as severe as yours!) I love the Mychelle products I get at Henry's. You can also order direct from their website, but I wait until Henry's is having their 25% off sale (twice a year) and stock up. My local Henry's doesn't carry the entire line of cosmetics, but I love their skin care and use the "Kiss of Color Natural Mineral Shimmer" for lips, cheeks & eyes. You can check out their products at www.mychelle.com. Good luck!

Hi J.,

I am sorry to hear about your allergies. I have a client who actually has to switch cosmetic lines about every 3-4 years. She is currently using Mary Kay. Mary Kay cosmetics has a new mineral line that also has vitamins in it. Lead is NOT in any Mary Kay products. We also have a 100% satisfaction guarantee. The company has a Medical Relations hotline to answer any questions. Please check the products out at www.marykay.com/valerieweber. I would be more than happy to send you samples and/or meet with you in person as well. Best Regards, V.

Hi J.,

How often do you change out your makeup? You just got over a head cold and while it's expensive, you need to replace all your makeup with fresh containers because your hands, lashes, tears, have contaminated the old containers with the virus. Since you can't disinfect them you'll have to toss them. Take Mascara, we stroke it on our lashes and re-insert the brush back into the tube to apply more. How sanitary is that really. Therefore it is highly recommended to replace it at least every 3 months to avoid eye infections. Lipsticks you can sanitize with alcohol. The rest just has to be replaced.

I myself use Nicole Miller Skin Care and Cosmetics and I am allergic to everything. You can pay full price but I found a source where you can get it for 40% off. So if you are interested, give me a buzz.

Carpe Diem :^D
