I woke up this morning with a fever and body aches, of course today is the ONE day my husbnd can't stay home:( I don't have any friends or family near by that could come and help...how am I going to survive?! I know I'm bei g dramatic but I feel soooo sick. My question is my daughter is still breastfed and I don't want her to get sick, any advice on preventing her from getting sick even though she's going to be so close to me? I wash my hands after I blow my nose and all that. TIA
Added I have my 6 year old son but he's pretty self reliant and is even helping take care of sick mommy:) my 6 year old is off from school today for a teacher workday...

What can I do next?

I have been there many times. Including the day I came home with a C-section. Block off a room with you and you little one. Get the TV going. Make yourself as comfortable as possible. Make sure you nap when your little one does. It stinks, but it's life. As for nursing, your little one is already exposed and nursing gives antibodies. I would continue to nurse and call to find out what you can take to make yourself more comfortable without harming your little one. A nice hot shower will make you feel ten times better.

Breastmilk is the *best* thing to keep her healthy! :)

In reality, though, everyone in the house will most likely get sick no matter what you do.

Do you only have the one child to care for?

You survive by resting all day. ONLY care for yourself and baby. No chores, errands, or guests. Stick to easy meals and have your hubby pick up something for dinner.

I got shingles when my oldest was 3-4 weeks old. They said the BEST prevention of her getting chicken pox was for me to breast feed her. I was already doing that, but it made me feel better. Your body will give baby what she needs and she will be fine.

I have found in the past that my nursers always get sick along with me but it is always much much milder. Like a slightly runny nose and it normally last for a day or 2. Just my experience. we are all sick too except hubby and he is at school today. My nurser kept me up for the past 3 nights and then last night my 3 year old was overly exaggerate with his coughing enough to make him puke chocolate milk all over me and the bed and daddy. So much fun! sending you well wishes

A bandanna around your mouth and nose? Don't breath down on her?

I'm battling a mystery crud with a BF baby too.

Good luck!

I was told when I was sick and nursing that it was best for the baby not to supplement cause it helped build their immune system. Sometimes they would get sick too but not always. I would say get your 6 year old when he's home from school if he's in school to help as much as he can with the baby. At least get stuff for you to take care of the baby. Hope you feel better really soon!!!!!!

I agree with the rest. BM will give her antibodies. You just get cozy on the couch. My DH never stayed home when I was sick. Maybe once when I was pregnant, had bronchitis, the flu, all at once. I could not even get out of bed. I usually just have to suck it up.
