How to Make NYE Super Fun at Home with 3 Kids?

I can honestly say that I do not want to go to another hotel party, dinner out waiting in a crowd or anything else that we used to do for NYE prior to having kids. We have a 1 yr old who will poop out by 8pm, and two other children 7 and 5. They'll think a countdown at 10pm is fantastic.

I'd love your ideas and suggestions on how to make a day local and NYE evening at home SUPER fun and unexpected. My husband is not creative but is game for most anything. Most of our friends already have other plans, so it's probably just our family.

I was thinking of a Wii or pool tournament, in home scavenger hunt (as in take pictures of you doing....using Mom with one kid and Dad with another), making homemade pizza for dinner and maybe some special "cocktails" complete with lots of Marichino cherries.

If you've had success with something I'd love to hear it. I'm tired of sitting around waiting for midnight! BORING

I like the scavenger hunt idea, I may steal that one. Last year my son LOVED playing with the poppers like the other poster mentioned. We also had chips and dip, which was a BIG hit. And we called relatives out of state to wish them a happy new year (we did call earlier in the day to ok a midnight call). We let our kiddo stay up until Midnight...it's once a year. Being able to do all this stuff so late was extremely fun for him. Happy New Year!

Hey--I'm coming to your house! Sounds fun.
We usually grill some steaks (even if we have to shovel out the grill!) and hang at home too.
My son likes to bang pots and pans on the front porch at midnight (for tradition).
I think we'll have a Wii tourney too---that sounds fun and the hours DO fly when you're playing Wii.

I'm in the same boat as you. I am perfectly fine staying in with my hubs and the kids. My husband and I are going to cook up a nice dinner, steak and whatnot and then we will probably do some games with the kiddos and movie and ice cream. Movies and ice cream sundaes are always a huge hit with my kids, but they are still very young (3,4 and 5). I bought some sparkling grape juice for them and they can toast, which is also a huge hit with little ones. My guess is none of us will actually stay up until midnight but we'll get the kids to bed a bit later than normal (no way are they staying up til midnight) and then my husband and I will most likely play cards for a little bit and attempt to stay up. I'm lame so I'll probably fall asleep and miss the ball drop, but I'm ok with that. I like your Wii idea. The kids love wii and we don't play it often so that would be a treat for them. I can't wait to hear more ideas!

Last year we did chocolate fondue. Kids had a blast dipping marshmallows, bananas, strawberries, pretzels, etc. I'm trying to think of things to do tonight as well!
