How to Lose Stubborn Baby Weight

My youngest is 18 months now and I am still fifty pounds over weight. With my first child the pounds just melted away and I was back to my regular 115 pounds in 6 months with hardly even trying. I am so embarrassed, if I see anyone who knew me when I was thin. Even my husband tells everyone I just had a baby to cover up. I go to the gym 2 to 3 times a week and I count my calories and nothing seems to work. Does anyone have any advice or information about a nutritionist? Or some advice how they lost their post pregnancy weight? I would really appreciate it

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, I went to see an Endocrinologist yesterday and he very ruidly told me my tsh is at normal levels 3.45. I just have to diet and workout and also said I can have a heart attack at any moment. So I guess enough of me blaming my weight gain on my thyroid and just really hit the gym.

Hello L.,

The only thing that has ever worked for me is to eat six small meals per day while drinking LOTS of water. If you eat meat, then only have a portion size (make a fist ~ that is your portion). My husband and I got our meal ideas from Michael Thurmond's six week makeover. We both lost over 20 lbs without even trying hard ~ this is after trying everthing else for the last three to four years without being able to loose a pound. For exercise, we would walk every other day or ride bikes.

I am a mom of 2 (12 & 8) and I was 40 pounds over weight. I hated it. I had to do something. I thought I had tried everything (and OMG, it really was all so hard) until I found Isagenix.

I am now 115 pounds and have been for more than 18 months (eating what and when I want). I can show you how easy it is. It is about feeding your body not starving it. Are you ready to do something so different that it actually works?

I love Weight Watchers!! I may have mentioned it on one of the other posts- not because I am getting paid for it but because it works for me. I have been involved (a second time) for the past 6 weeks and have lost 13 lbs!!! I was a member before I got preganant with my son and lost a significant amount of weight as well. It helps by giving you tips to live by. They teach portion control, how to eat in moderation and not give up your favorites, the significance of exercise (tips included) and most importantly, it gives you a source of support.
I also go onto the free website at www.sparkpeople.com. It allows you to record your food and exercise and helps by giving suggestions on how to go about reaching your goals. It has a library of articles and features a new article each week. You get to track your progress and see what you need to work on. Let me know what you decide.

UGH!! gained over 50lbs with my pg and though managed to take off about 20lb of it, the last 30 was still holding on after 18months. I joined the gym, started working out and joined weight watchers...they have a great diet program called the core plan that you don't have to count all those points which I really liked (though many have success with the points program.) It's more about eating the right foods and making good food choices instead of actually "dieting."
I can't tell you how many people in my meeting are there getting baby weight off and it is working for all of us...I've only got 5 more lbs to go!
Check out http://www.Weightwatchers.com to find a meeting and read about their plans.
Good luck!

In my experience of dieting, I always found that if I told myself I was on a diet, I wanted to eat all the wrong things! It may help to eat a balanced diet with fruit, vegetables and lean cuts of meat plus wholemeal carbohydrates and drink plenty of water, rather than counting every calorie. I think if you could increase your visits to the gym, that would help more than anything else, because you really need to do some form of cardio workout for 30 mins 5 days a week. I know with two kids, this can be impossible, but if you can't make it to the gym, go out for a walk, or do some activity that will raise your heart rate for at least 30 minutes. Try skipping, start off slow, doing a few minutes and build up gradually, its a great cardio workout. If your wallet allows maybe talk to one one of the trainers at the gym and get a few personal training/nutrition sessions to set you on the right track. Keeping a log of your exercise progress really helps to motivate you. You'll get there, don't despair, keep a positive attitude! One other thing I just thought of, have you had your thyroid checked? My sister ended up with an underactive thyroid after the birth of her daughter, which can make weight loss harder. Good luck. Keep us posted on your progress!

something to consider:
get your thryoid checked
I always like to rule out the medical stuff first
it's very common for your body's thyroid to go wacko during/after pregnancy

ask to get a full thyroid panel run
& see if you can get the actual number from the TSH test. A lot of docs/labs still go by the OLD scale, where #s up to 5.5 can still be called 'normal'. The NEW recommendations are not over 3.5. Even though it's been YEARS since they adjusted the TSH range, some docs still aren't aware...and many don't know that the ideal range is 1-2 for most women...

My endo likes to see that one between 0.35 and 2.0. Mine was at 5.4 when my symptoms were starting, some people can get up really high with no symptoms. My (fired)doc told me that my symptoms were normal and nothing that diet and exercise wouldn't cure. A year later my symptoms had really escalated and I sought a new doctor and was diagnosed and on the road to feeling better and being able to lose that hypo weight if I get serious about it.

When you go to the gym, do you do cardio or lift weights? I lost my baby weight (gained 70 pounds with my pregnancy) by lifting weights, not girly ones either, heavy ones. And I try to eat a diet thats low in fat, low in carbs, and high in fiber and protein. I know, thats what everyone says to do, but it does work. Its a heck of a commitment, but it was worth it to me to be able to fit in my old clothes.
