Hi mommas, do you have a tried a true way to knock out the common cold in a 4 year old? Symptoms are the basic runny nose, congestion and cough, all mild. I have always used Boiron Chestal for congestion and cough, and saline for the nose, which does work well to ease symptoms as the cold runs it's course, but, I'm desperate to try and knock this thing out asap (like tomorrow, lol). Is it possible?? Suggestions? Thank you!!

So What Happened?

Yeah, I was being impatient and not realistic, lol... I'm sticking with the Chestal, and added Yummi Bears with echinacea, vitamin c and zinc. She's feeling fine, just symptomatic, and won't be able to attend a Bday party, boo hoo :(
Thanks Moms!!

I used Little Critters Immune boost the last time my son got sick and he got over it very fast and it did not get beyond a runny nose. We also use a cool mist humidifier every night.

Hi.
I am unsure if by tomorrow, but here is how we beat something this week:
1. Multi vitamin with extra C.
2. Special children's vitamin for winter -- echineacea, sambuco and propolis (We are abroad now, but the US may have a similar...)
3. Acidolpholous. (sp?)
4. Lots of sleep and fresh air...
5. Chicken soups. Even put warm broth in a bottle and carry it around.

It's not possible. It needs to run its course. Focus on easing the symptoms and be patience for the symptoms to go away.

no, not possible ... a cold must run its course for 5-7 days any longer then it's doctor time.

A cold is a virus and must complete it's course. There is nothing that will knock out a virus.

A person can improve their immune system by taking such things as Vitamin C but this has to be done before the virus gets a hold on the body. Jilly613 has good advice for improving the immune system but it must be done before the person catches the cold. The sleep and fresh air, chicken soup is again treating the symptoms.

I've always had good luck with OJ, echinacea (Airborne), vitamin C (emergenC), Colloidal silver, homemade chicken noodle soup (with fresh garlic.) My kids got two colds recently that were hard to knock out quickly so I'm not sure what's going on. Good luck!!

Elderberry syrup won't do it overnight, but works great to really boost their immune systems when sick.

It is like Cold-eeze but for children..

The other thing which works but is almost impossible.. Is total rest with lots of orange juice.
