How to Handle Multiple Winnings at Bunko

Updated on October 23, 2012

When playing Bunko, the end there is sometime an individual who will win multiple scores; as in 1st bunko, most bunkos, last bunko and even most wins.

How can our group fairly divide these winnings? Do we let the hostess choose which winning that individual will get, do we let them choose or do you have any suggestions?

A few of our team players have left feeling a bit over played when on person has won and no one else is gaining a win. Any suggestions would be great.

What can I do next?

It's a game - someone wins, someone loses. Sometimes the same person wins more than once. It happens.
How is it not fair for the person who won to get the prizes?

We play every month. Everyone puts in $10 so we have have $120 total. We give $40 each to the winner of each of these categories:
Most wins (we play 12 rounds)
Most Buncos
Most Babies (three of the same number that are NOT the number you're going for in that round)

If there is a tie, the people involved can choose to split the cash or do a roll-off. If there are 3 or more tied, we always do a roll-off. If someone happens to win two or more categories, they get the cash for all of their winnings.

We also give a loser's gift for whoever has the most losses. Usually it's whatever junk the host has rounded up from their house, but sometimes it contains a gift card or something a little bit nice too. : )

Honestly, if one person wins it all, we give them a hard time in a fun, teasing sort of way but there are no hard feelings from anyone.

I am assuming prizes are given for these wins? If so, just let the person pick one prize, and then go to the second place person in each of the next categories, making it a rule that each person only gets one prize.

I worked with a woman who accepted Bunko invitations after her mother passed away. She hadn't been out much as she had spent all of her spare time taking care of her mom. She had never played before, and for whatever reason, the woman just couldn't lose. She didn't even really understand the game, but she just kept winning.

She was on Cloud Nine.

I've never played. I don't really get it. But, to me, it seems like a game that some people are either lucky at or they aren't. I have a friend who takes me to a local casino and she never walks out without winning money. Me? I'm better off people watching and spending my money on something to eat because even with free birthday credits, I never win anything. She has literally won so much money that it put her in a higher tax bracket. I might as well just set money on fire and flush it down the toilet. I'm not mad at her or think it's not fair.

If you want to set limits on how many times a person can win, then do so. Make it known that you want to let everyone have a fair chance. However, at that point, you might as well just have the person who wins sit out. What fun is that though? Some people just tend to get on a lucky streak.

Maybe you have to approach it like a kid's party. Everyone goes home with a prize whether they win or not.

I asked a friend that has been in a Bunco group for over 10 years... Here is her response.

L., if one person has 1st place for games won and most bunko's then they get 1st place. Then the next prize is for most bunko's after that. We always had Most bunkos, 1st (games won), 2nd (games won), boobie (least games won) and everyone else rolled off for consolation w/the person rolling the highest score getting it. If there was a tie for any of the prizes the people rolled off and the highest score took the win except if there was a roll off for boobie and then the lowest score got it. Only one person can win most bunko's because the other prizes are for games. That's how we played it. Hope that helps.

You tell the grown women, that chose to play a game they might very well lose, to act their age & be good sports.

Seriously, it's amazing how females can take something fun & ruin it by getting butt hurt because they lost. Really?!!

It's a game. This isn't preschool. You win or you lose, and you are gracious either way.

We always do prizes in the same order, although it does not matter, but we say that only 1 prize pee person. If the same person wins multiple catagories we go to the next one, we also give out the biggest loser (most losses) and the even Stevens prize. I have also done first to arrive and last to arrive. Good luck

that happened to us last time we played Bunco. There happened to be a younger girl in the house, and the hostess asked her to pick names out of a hat, for each category you mentioned, and they would win a certain amount of money. She was kind of the peace keeper since she was a little girl, and everyone was happy. If you don't have a little girl in the house, maybe you could have the hostess draw names if it happens again.

I went to a baby shower once and I seemed to know the answers to all of the silly and cutesy games. After I won my first prize, I just played but shouted that I won! Therefore, other guests could 'win' a bottle of nail color, photo frame or whatever else was given.

Maybe change the prizes. We have most buncos, most wins, most losses, and dead even. I can't think of a time when we've had one person win more than one category.

Well you may want to start with not having so many prizes that would always go to the same person. Isn't it logical that most bunkos and most wins would tend to be the same person? Even first and last would more than likely go to the person who wins the most.

So either rank your prizes by first game get this, second that and so on to last, or go by things like most wins, second most and so forth down to last place. By picking from both pools, and not including all of both pools, you are insuring that one person is going to win a lot and a few will win nothing.

When our ladies play bunco we give a prize for most buncos, most won games, biggest loser and then anyone that has NOT won a prize has a dice roll off and the highest score rolled gets the last prize. Anyone that has already won a prize is not eligible for another one on the same night. We play with 3 tables of 4 and each month everyone brings $5.00 for prize money and that money is given to the hostess for the FOLLOWING month to purchase the 4 prizes. We do one $20 gift, two $15 gifts and one $10 gift. It works well because with the roll off everyone has a chance at a prize.
