I accidentally washed & dried my son's pants with gum in the pockets, and now there is melted gum on one of my husband's shirts. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get it out? I've tried to scrape it off and soak it in detergent/water, but it's not budging. Thanks!
Hi K., sorry, I didn't take the time to read all of the responses but the best way & easiest is to use cigarette lighter flluid, not propane but the old fashion liquid. It melts the gum right out. If it leaves a greasy spot, use dish soap & wash it out before you put it into wash. Dawn or Joy work well. Good luck.

Peanut Butter is the best way to get gum out of anything. Rub a small amount on spot and watch it melt away. Something about the oil in the pb will get it out.

Citra-Solv will get it right out. You can buy it at Whole Foods. Goo Gone may work, but I have personally not tried it.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

It takes grease to fight grease. Use peanut butter, rub it in and let set about 15 minutes. Scrape excess off and spray with Shout or Spray and Wash, or something like it. Wash in hot water with detergent. Do not dry until you check to see if it is all gone. Repeat if necessary.

Put the clothes in the freezer then scrape it off. If the fabric will be ok like Cotton use some WD40 but keep rubbing and scraping with a dull knife. Good Luck Color crayons are worse. G. W

I've put the clothes in the freezer before. Let the gum get really hard and you should be able to pop it right off or use a butter knife. hope that helps.

Hi K.,
I did the same thing not too long ago, the best thing to use is ice cubes. Put the cube on top of the gum and let it sit. Once the gum is hard, you can scrape it off. Good Luck!

Ice cubes? That might work but will take some elbow grease.

The freezer method works but it's a pain. Put baby oil on it and then rub it with Dawn Dish Detergent. I has to be Dawn. It will roll right off of his shirt. Then spray with Spray and Wash or something to get the oil out when you wash it. I've done this tons of times as my son and husband have both forgotten their gum in their pockets.

Hi K.,
I requested help a short time ago with gum on clothing. The way I successfully removed the gum is too long to type again, but it's on here. Check in the Requests and Responses section to research it and you should find it. It doesn't take long to look something up.

It's not a home treatment, but your dry cleaner can probably get it out. Mine was able to get gum out of a blouse without any damage or residue when I was stumped at home. Good luck!

I've done the same thing--try rubbing peanut butter in the gum. The oil in the peanut butter breaks down the gum and releases it. It takes some elbow grease, so don't give up on the first try, it works.
Good Luck-

Stick the shirt in the freezer for a few hours, then try again. If that doesn't work, there are presoaks that state that they remove gum, so I'd try that. Good Luck!
