Our 4 week old girl doesn't seem to want to sleep in her crib or bassinet. She is sleeping best in her bouncy seat. She will sleep in it all day long if you let her. We wake her during the day to eat usually 3-4 hours. Then let her go in the night until she wakes up. She does have some gas issues we are dealing with too. The night before last she ate at 10 pm and went until almost 6 am (in the bouncy seat). We were extatic!!! So we tested her lastnight and put her in our room in her crib. We did raise the crib so she wasn't flat on her back too. She was swaddled in the swaddle me wrap and asleep around 10:30. She was so restless until she started screaming at 1:45 am.

I know she is too young to sleep train but what can we do to get her to sleep in her bed, anything? Also what are some tips to trying to gear her in the right direction to sleep at night?

What can I do next?

We were able to get our now 4 month old son to sleep in his crib from the beginning by using these tips. The first thing is that the crib is so big and they are so small that they do feel lost, even when swaddled. So instead of putting him in the crib like you would for an older child (head and toes pointed to the smaller sides of the crib) we put him in sideways. Then we used the body pillow that I had used while pregnant and sectioned it so that he was only sleeping in about half of the crib (or less). Then we also swaddled him. Sometimes it can be as simple as putting a shirt of yours under them so that they still feel like they are in your arms. But if she is sleeping fine in the bouncy seat these probably aren't issues for her....but they are tricks to try. I would just try and get her to sleep, for now, small stretches in the crib and then let her sleep in the bouncy seat. I had one child who wouldn't sleep in their crib, but would sleep great in the swing. So we would slowly start putting them in the crib for stretches and less in the swing and finally they were sleeping in the crib at night rather than the swing. Good luck to you.

As far as sleeping at night, we did this for my daughter and it seemed to work great. During the day we would change her diaper after we fed her and at night we would change it before. Changing the diaper after a feeding always help wake her up and at night the feeding would sooth her. Also keep room dark at night when feeding. She was sleeping through the night at 4 months and it was great. As far as the sleeping in the crib I never had this issue but sounds like it might the gas issues you described. Hopefully someone will have good advice, sorry i can thelp there. Good luck and ((HUGS))

you are talking about a 4 week old baby right?...not a 4 month old baby? :)
oh man, my little boy STAYED in his bouncy seat, vibrating swing, my chest, wherever at that little sweet scrumptious baby age! anywhere they can sleep is good!! at first i thought it was bad and i didn't want his little back to hurt or neck or whatever, but once someone else told me that's what babies do (like for a couple months!) i was like, whew! it's okay! let that sweet beautiful baby sleep wherever she's most comfortable. i think my sweet boy started doing the crib for real at about 4 months...before that it was the swing (which was a really good one though), snuggled w/me, etc. (sorry i didn't answer your question exactly but hoping a different perspective would help!) :) good luck & congrats on your new addition...whatta blessing you have. :)

4 weeks is very young. She may have just a bit of reflux and that's why she is comfy in the bouncy. You could try using a crib wedge found at Babies Rus. They are designed to fit tightly under the sheet.

But she is probably comfortable in the bouncy because it gives her a better sense of closeness, security like she had in the womb. The crib is this wide open space that is sometimes hard for a baby that young to feel comfortable in.

Google 4th trimester for ideas how to make baby feel comfortable in this great big new world that she is trying to get used to.
