I add white vinegar to my clothes--especially my kids clothes, outside clothes like coats, and towels to get rid of any stale smell. I add it right to the wash cycle after the soap.

Hi,

Put Borax in as a laundry booster with your laundry detergent-- it really helps get the smell out!

Borax and/or baking soda along with your detergent. You may need up to one cup. Follow with a cup of white vinegar in the rinse cycle for further stripping of any traces of old detergent, perspiration, or skin oils; the acidity will also soften clothes. The pickle smell is gone by the time they are dry.

I'm unclear if you are referring to smelly clothes after wearing or smelly/moldy smelling after sitting damp for a while. If it's after wearing add vinegar or baking soda into the wash cycle. If its damp clothes that have been sitting a while, soak in lots of vinegar + detergent water for a while before washing and then add some more into the wash cycle(if the material can take hot water use hot water). Both Vinegar and baking soda are odor neutralizers, but I find that vinegar works better on the tougher smells. Good luck.

If you have the front loading machine that may be your problem. I never had this problem until I bought one of these. I researched the issue and found that this is one of the problems with the front loaders. I always leave the door open so that it does build up the smell and I also run the Affresh tabs on the cleaning cycle once every couple of months. They say you can also use bleach. Hope this helps.

I too add white vinegar, a cup to a full load. It removes odors and soap residue. It even softens the clothes. YAY!
