Hi! So tonight I'm going to tackle the basement shower in hopes to get it sparkling clean. Does anybody have any tips for me on getting my cloudy, soap scum covered glass shower door clean? I never seem to get it totally clean.

Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Magic Erasers and lots of them! I hate using cleaners in the shower because I just end up gassing myself in the enclosed space, but Magic Erasers will scrub through the soap scum with just water and A LOT of elbow grease. Good luck!

Several things I have found that works great...

Tooth Paste... the actual paste works better than the gel (and you can get at the dollar stores) but just rub some on... rub off with a sponge or cloth.... if its really bad, may have to scrub a little....

Vinegar works great for getting the stuff off the shower head. Take a plastic baggy and rubber band fill with vinegar and let soak for 30-45 minutes, then and old toothbrush works great to lightly brush off the hard water "stuff" Can use the toothbrush for the corners of the shower and that stuff in the doorway... :-)

Can make a foamy paste of vinegar and baking soda that will help get the stuff off too. Can try this on the rest of the shower too. Does not work well with my EXTREMELY hard water spots, but works on many other showers that dont have SUCH hard water...

On the door, if it is still stuck or seems etched... try magic eraser and then if still really bad - toothpaste with magic eraser...

For the stuff in the corner, if yoiu have mold, try Hydrogen peroxide. Spray lightly, let soak (foam up) then spray again in 10 mins. then again in another 5-10 min then wipe out with the brush.... If it is deep under the caulk though, you may not have a choice but to recaulk....

I like these becuase they are stuff you should already have at home, basically natural items, and dont knock you out while trying to clean. And I dont worry using them now that I am pregnant.

Have fun...

When we had shower doors, I used CLR. It did a fantastic job. Melaleuca's tub and tile is really good (actually the only product of their's I like) but it did not help withthe really bad hard water. You can try CLR, use rubber gloves since after a while it can irritate, and let it sit on the doors for a minute if they are really bad. I also love the Kaboom cleaners. They always work great on my bathtub. After you really get it clean, vinegar and water should do the trick.

Your problem is likely a combination of hard water (if you're anything like us here in Indiana) and soap scum.

CLR and LimeAway have worked best for us along with, Mr. Clean Magic Erasers if you can believe it.

A google search on "cleaning hard water" stains didn't really help as few sights were credible, but I'm sure looking for something at Lowe's, Walmart, made for hard water may help. It's part of how Oxy Clean became a household name.

You have gotten alot of cleaning product suggestions. Once you get your glass doors clean, keep them from getting like that again by using a squeegy (like you use to clean windshields only smaller) after EVERY use. I keep a small one in my shower and we use it everytime. My glass doors are 14 years old and as clear as they were when brand new.

If you are doing it tonight try vinegar, but I use Shaklee's Basic H2. It's nothing short of remarkable. Contact me if you would like a link.

The only thing that worked for me is Melaleuca's tub and tile. I swear by this stuff!

you might try nail polish remover. A contractor suggested it on our really badly discolored shower basin. It worked magic where nothing else had done the trick.

Arm and Hammer no scrub spray. It uses peroxide instead of bleach and it eats all the up without scrubbing. Its amazing stuff i know use it for my bathroom, makes cleaning lot less time consuming. Pick some up its in a yellowy/orange bottle. Beware the scent can be overpowering sometimes
