How Often Did/does Your 5 Month Old Nap?

Our little guy is all over the board. There are days where he takes 2 long naps, and days where he takes 4 shorter naps. Just wondering if there are any ladies out there with babies around 5 months, and wondering what your napping schedule is like? 4 naps a day seems like a lot to me...but I just can't remember what our first did at this age?

I should probably mention that he usually sleeps through the night (8-6ish), sometimes he gets up at 3am for a bottle.

What can I do next?

My little girl did 4 naps a day-like 40 minutes each-until she was almost 6 months. Then her wakeful periods became longer, so she could stay up and only needed 3. We are now probably going down to 2 soon (she just turned 8 months). She has taken 1 hour naps in the middle of the day but still needs that 3rd one around 3:30pm. Oh, and we didn't really have that consistent schedule. The only consistent thing was being able to predict how long she'd be awake from one nap to the next. Just recently has she begun a somewhat regular schedule as far as the clock is concerned. I just followed her cues and she did it all herself. If one nap was particularly short, we'd move the next one up, hoping it would be longer, and it usually was. They are basically around 9am, 12pm and 3pm-give or take 30 minutes one way or the other depending on the previous nap.
I hope this helps! This is my first baby, so I am very new at all of this!

My kids did three naps until they were 9 months or so and then moved to two until they were 14 months, and then finally to one long one in the middle of the day.

The schedule for three naps was:
9:00 - 10:30
12:30 - 2:00
4:00 - 4:30 - last one was always short

I found that when they didn't sleep the whole naptime, I still just kept to the napping schedule because otherwise they slept all over the place and it was very hard to take them to do things predictably. Also, it threw the eating schedule all out of wack if they were napping when they were supposed to be having lunch. But my kids did well on a structured schedule - not all kids do.

I hope that helps! Good luck!

Probably around 6 or 7 months he will settle into the long am nap, with
a shorter one in the afternoon. My feeeling always was if they let me
get my sleep at night, I can cope with anything during the day. Hang
in.

A baby should sleep when they are tired. Mine took 3 naps a day on most days, 4 if they were really tired.

I always took cues from my babies and let them sleep when they were tired.

At that age my daughter took three naps a day usually about 1-1 1/2 hours each and she was up usually for about 2-2 1/2 hours at a time. She went down to two naps around 8 months old. So it was usually like this:
6:30 am up, bottle, breakfast
9-10:015sh nap
10:15am bottle
12:30pm-1:30 nap
1:30 bottle, lunch
3:30-4:45ish nap
4:45 bottle
6:00 Dinner then bath
7:00 pm Bottle and bedtime

I've got a 5month old and he sounds just like yours. Some days he'll take a 3 hour nap with two 30-45 minute naps and other days all he seems to do is cap nap 30-45 minutes here and there. His sleeping schedule for the night is 7:30-6ish with a 3am wake up to nurse. No matter what I do I can't seem to get him to be more regular. My first would take 3 two hour naps and my second just one big nap 3-4hours with a few dozes in between. Both my older two were good night time sleepers, just like my third. I guess each child is truly different in their sleeping needs.
