I am looking for an on-call sitter in the Plano area for about two days a week (random) to watch my 10 month old all day and to pick-up and care for my 6 year old after school. I may ask them to do some light housework too. I was planning on paying about $50.00 a day...is this enough, too much?? Thanks for any input/suggestions.

What can I do next?

That's only $6/hr or so...I doubt you'll find anyone to do that for that pay. Unless they are illegal or something like that. But remember, you get what you pay for. I would think you'll have to pay at least $8/hr to find someone to do it... Good luck!

Thankfully, we have just passed the age where we pay sitters for our daughter.

As a guide though...we had a weekly date night and guaranteed a minimum of $40 for thi night no matter what (meanind if we cancelled, etc because the night was saved for us). On most occasions, our nightly sitter was $60 minimum to $100 maximum.

Our last sitter did drive to us (high school senior) she helped with any homework or projects, she assisted with music (accompanied at competition) and she was overall a Godsend to us.

We rarely paid less than $80 for a date night.

My suggestion is a minimum of $10 per hour with a guarantee of your discretion.

Yes, $50 is appropriate, I'd say.

I think the going rate for a quality sitter is about $10-$12/hr. And since they are going to have to transport your baby to pick up the older child, they need to have a safe, reliable car too!

As far as the price, I'm not sure but my husband and I are moving to Denton in a while and I might be interested in this job. We just moved back from China and are currently not employed. How far is Denton from Plano? :-)

From what you're saying, it sounds like you're looking for a sitter who will watch only your children, in your home, as well as transport the older one? When I "retired" from doing exactly that sort of work (watching and transporting kids, no housework duties) 5 year ago, I was making $12/hour + gas money. We currently pay the neighborhood high school girl $10/hour to sit our 2-year-old, with no expectation of transportation (aside from the occasional walk to the playground). For drop-in care at an in-home daycare (i.e., the mom watches other kids in addition to yours, up to a legal maximum of 6, in her home, not yours) you can likely find something for about $30/day, but may have to pay 35 or 40 to have the choice that you like. Good childcare is expensive, I know! GL!

Hi KC,

Typical pay for nannies and care sitters are anywhere between $8 and $12 an hour, depending on experience. If you are adding more responsibility for them, such as cleaning, you can expect to pay more. For someone reliable, responsible and trustworthy - you have to pay to get those qualities. Good luck in your search!

I think about $20 a day is fair. (that's the average pay I worked for.) The sitter has to understand that you can't give them ALL your money.
