Hi ladies,
My family has recently relocated to Bedford from Austin. My husband and I are in desperate need of some time alone! I have been checking out sittercity.com in hopes of finding a sitter, but they all seem to expect $10-$15/hour!! To me that is insane, especially because I really only have one boy that needs watched, the oldest can handle himself. In the past I was paying $7-$8/hour and I thought that was fair, am I way off?

You need to find a teenager (14 to 17 year old) and they usually charge about $7/hour.

We pay $15 an hour but we have 4 kids and I consider it well worth it. If we were to go to one of those hourly drop-off places we would pay a fortune. If you plan on being out for more than a few hours, maybe you can negotiate a flat rate for a whole evening with a sitter. Most seem to be flexible I think. Ours even charges half price after our kids go to bed since she is basically just sitting and watching TV until we get home.

i am paying $15/hr for my infant twins; however, my sitter is incredibly reliable, 28 years old, CPR trained, etc. from what i can gather, 10-15/hr is pretty average by me. for someone in HS tho, i wouldn't pay as much. but then, i wouldn't hire someone in HS to watch two infants.

also- i have used KidzTime, and they aren't as much as my sitter. with a membership (which you can get for $30 with a coupon), it costs $12/hr. admittedly, i would much rather have someone at my house, but in a pinch, it works.

It depends on the sitter. If you're paying a tween to watch your kid, its probably closer to $7 or $8...maybe even for an teenager. BUT, if you are paying an older teenager or college student or adult, you're looking at anywhere from $10 to $20.

I believe the going rate is $10 an hr which is what I get paid. That's what everyone that I know gets paid.

Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Hi
I have 3 yo twin boys. I pay $12/hr and it is well worth it. I agree with one of the PPs, if you're going to be out for 4 hours why not agree on a set price like $40 for the night.

Good luck.
