We recently had a babysitter for our 3 kids and we are so excited to finally have one that we don't want to lose her. I just want to make sure that we are paying her enough. What is the going rate for a babysitter for 3 kids ages-7,6, and 15months? We thought that $10/hr was reasonable but please any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

I think it does depend on the age of the sitter as well, but $10/hr sounds fair. I am having the same issue but think I will discuss what the sitter thinks is fair or what she would like...can't hurt to ask her if you and her are on the same page instead of just assuming. Good luck!

$10 is more than fair. that is what i charged when i babysat as an adult. for a teen, you could go lower, but if you can afford it, remember, you get what you pay for! she won't want to lose you either!

hi C.,
My name is D. and i babysat for four kids all summer at the ages of 4,5,8,and10 and i got $10 an hour. I think what you are paying is very resonable considering the economy these days. Hope this helps!...D.

I have a 5 year old and 2 year old and I pay 10$ an hour for babysitters that are college age, have CPR certificates and work at our baby school. Most of them have some sort of teaching and/or child development degree as well.

We pay our sitters $8/hr. We have 3 kids 6,4, and 21 months. My kids are really easy going and don't give the sitter much trouble.
A friend of mine has 3 roudy boys and pays her sitter $10/hr.

$10 an hour sounds a little high to me, but if you can afford that then go ahead and I'm sure she'll appreciate it!

You didn't say the babysitter's age, but I think $10/hr is very reasonable for an ocassional sitter. If she is really, really good (cooks, cleans up, puts kids to bed, etc) and you don't schedule her very often, maybe you could go $12/hr, depending on your budget? I have paid from $5-$8, depending on the sitter's age, but I only have an 18month old and the sitters are usually younger (12-16). When I was a full time nanny with more than 1 child, $10-$12/hr was my usual pay and I have several years of experience...Hope my rambling helps a little. :)

That sounds about right; like other have stated, it depends on her age and "training". I have two kids, 3.5 and 2 years, and I pay my sitter $7/hr. She is first aid and CPR certified and a collage student. I pay her on the lower end because she is a friend of the family and offers to do it free for me. I also have a child with severe food allergies, so I'm pretty picky who sits my kids. I do have another sitter that I pay $10, again, just because I'm so picky. I was told by my friend of the family the "going" rate was $4-6/hour/kid.

If you have a sitter you like, just ask her if that's okay, and be open with her with the price. Oh, I also pay my sitter extra if she is there past 11pm and for gas money. A good sitter is priceless in my family though :P
