How Many Training Pants Will I Need?

I am starting potty training in earnest tomorrow. My 22 mos. son is excited about his potty, his big boy undies and loves peeing in the tub. He squats to poop. So I know he is ready. My question is: Am I? I have 11 pair of regular big-boy undies, 6 pair of training undies- the ones that have the absorbant panel in front, and 2 pair of absorbant trainers with a rubber outside. I also have a pack of pull ups.
What else do I need? How many trainers should I have?

Thanks a bunch mamas!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Today is D-Day!
So here is how it went today. Right after waking up, we went to the potty. He refused to wear undies, so I let him run around naked. He came back into the bathroom 5 min later while I was brushing my teeth, walking on tip-toe (not a normal thing) and obviously freaked out about something. I asked him if he peed. He said, "Oh" as if he needed a word for the wierd thing that just happened. I have to admit, I had an urge to laugh. So, walking out to the living room, I found not only pee, but two tidy piles of poop. Poor kid. So he helped me flush it. He said, "See Ya" as it went down. This time I really did laugh. Then he sat on the potty again and this time we put on big boy undies. We sat before breakfast, after breakfast and a few more times. No more pee all morning. Totally dry in his undies for 3 hours! So I decided to take the plunge and go ALL THE WAY. I was planning on pull ups for nap, but he did so good all morning that I just put rubber-backed training undies over the ones he had on. (he needs a change of sheets anyway.) So we'll see what happens. Cheer for us!
Thanks for responding!

I'd have enough to last a couple of days. Unless you want to do laundry every day. If he's ready then you'll be fine. The only other thing that I can think that you'll need is a healthy dose of patience. It's going to be a long road. lol. Good luck.

Pull ups are kind of a waste. If he is really ready you won't need them duringvthe day & can finish off your diapers at night.

Good luck & don't be disappointed if he's not really ready. Tinkling in the potty & squatting are good signs but he also needs to be aware of the process before it happens! Be patient & return those pull-ups for more undies! You may also want to keep a bucket of water & Oxyclean next to your washer to let them soak b/c you can't do laundry with each change but will want to get the stains out with a "soaked load" each night!

I feel that you already have way more than I ever did. Just see how it goes. If you need more, you can always make a trip to the store. He's not going to go through all that in one day. If he does, that means he's not ready.

My only advice would be to buy really cheap underwear. I personally wouldn't ever want to clean poopy underwear - thankfully, my son never had a poop accident. But I always knew that if he did, I was just going to throw it away rather than deal with the mess.

Depends on how often you want to do laundry! We never used trainers and saved the pull-ups for when we left the house and kept using diapers at night.

when I had kids that age, it worked out so that I had one trainer pant for every diaper I would have used per day plus a couple. So if my kid was using 6 diapers during the day I had 6 trainers. Have enough of a stash for three days so there's always "extra" but really it was only the first few days and maybe the odd day where one would go through an entire day and a few more.

So i think you have enough for one day. Se how it goes for a day or so. You'll quickly know if you need to run out and buy more.

We have 15 training pants, 8 rubber pants to go over them when leaving the house, and go through them in 3 days on the average. I'm using the remainder of his Extra Protection Pampers for night (I bought BIG boxes from Amazon and want to use them up. Once they're gone it's Potty Scotty Night Trainers.) We're not using pull-ups because they whick the moisture away from the body (that's their purpose, to keep them dry) so I've found little ones have no incentive to pull them down and go potty and use them as diapers, plus, they're too expensive.
And anyone now saying I'm loony regarding pull-ups should take a look at the new Huggies slip-on diapers, same concept with a different marketing pitch, and still more expensive than regular diapers ; )
http://www.huggies.com/en-US/products/diapers/littlemover... *However, PT moms take note ~ one of the moms whose review I read said these work better at night than pull-ups as they absorb more.

My suggestion for what you need is lots of patience and a sense of humor. As Krista P said, your son still may not be quite ready, even though it's great that he's excited about his potty, loves peeing in the tub, and squats to poop. My guy was the same, and yet we are now preferring not to pee in the potty and are in major poop retention, Day 5. And he agreed that we should "throw the potty away!" (I recklessly asked this jokingly this morning because he wouldn't even sit to try and pee, sigh.)

We've spent lots of time with no bottom clothing, although he prefers none at all, to facilitate ease in training. But like any parent who's been there will tell you, it HAS to be their idea and if anything rocks their thinking all bets are off! I honestly thought we'd grasp PT 101 in a week or 2 tops, with accidents of course, but that we'd have the idea down. Instead he enjoyed it about 4 or 5 days then "NO!" was his every response. We took a break of a few weeks when stickers, Dum Dum pops and books didn't inspire. Then he started taking off his diaper again and saying "potty!" so we began again and all seemed cool. He was peeing practically on demand (no, I didn't) for a couple of weeks, pooped a few times in it and once on the carpet and was so proud :-/ Then we're back to "NO, Mama!" I got a few new ideas last night on training defiant toddlers, with him I believe privacy is an issue, and plan to implement them but if nothing works will back off awhile again, then restart anew. He's 28 months, won't be going to preschool until Sept 2012, so I know we have plenty of time.

Oh, and the humor part? Just in case you want to keep your sanity ; )
Hope all goes easy for you and your son!

I had 6 pairs of training pants and 5 were wet before noon.. I bought 6 more pairs. Do not use pull ups except for nights and naps. Your son is young very young.. if you start training him and he has many accidents stop wait .. try again later. My son was trained in 3 days at age 2 yars and 10 months. I would put the big boy panties away until he is trained.

You can count undies all day but it doesn't matter what the numbers are. What matters is how often you want to do laundry! LOL No matter how many pair of undies you have, you won't have enough and will be doing laundry much more often then you do now. The first few days (and yes, for some kids it's the first few weeks and sometimes it's months!) he will have lots of accidents. He is on the young side for potty training no matter how much you think he is ready. Most kids do not succeed in being trained till they are at least 2 and a half and he's not even 2 yet.
