My mom called it her pocketbook.
:)
And Aigner was all the rage when I was a teenager. Also Stone Moutain and Liz Claiborne.
I am looking for different names for purses. We are having a purse auction at our parish and doing a game (similar to shower game) where they have to look at the purse and say what kind it is. These are the ones I have
purse, clutch, bag, handbag, evening bag, hobo bag, wallet, coin purse, change purse, satchel, tote and carryall
if you have any others (not looking for a million names for the totebag lol as I got a lot of those but looking for actual purse names)
also looking for designers the ones we have so far are
coach, prada, kate spade, db, 31, gucci
thanks for any help with the names.

I still call it my "pocketbook." My mother always used that term.
Other designers of bags: Michael Kors, Dolce and Gabbana, Burberry, Hermes (especially the famous Birkin bag), Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dooney and Burke, Brahmin, Fendi, Longchamp, Chloe -the list goes on and on!
I'm not much of a purse gal.
When I carried one, I called it my "tampon carrier".
I don't use tampons anymore due to loverly menopause.
so now it's to hold my cell phone and my husbands meds. Not sure there's a name for that quite yet. Probably PURSE.
Pocketbook (SO old fashioned, LOL!) beach bag/tote, market bag/tote, travel bag, fanny pack, wristlet...

I would go to Coaches websire and see what they call their purses. I have 4 and they are all different so I bet they have different names.
Cross-body bag is the type that you sling from one shoulder down across your stomach to the opposite hip.
Designers - I have a Kathy Van Zeeland, my favorite as a teen as Liz Claiborne
Petunia Picklebottom, Oi Oi, of famed diaper "purses."
If you have one for a guy you can use the term man-bag or murse. Another thought is using the term in different languages. Borsa is purse in Italian; bolso in Spanish; sac a main in French; geldborse in German, portmonetka in Polish, etc. I think that would be neat if you had some that actually looked the part - or were colors of those countries' flags.
Pocketbook, wristlet, and my fave old fashioned term...reticule.
Heres a fun little article about handbags...
