A.K.
There are a couple Henrys that go to the daycare at my gym. I notice their names on the sign in sheet. I love that name.
I was just reading the Baby Center's to p100 most popular baby names list from 2011 and my son's name - Henry- is #41 (near almost every name we are liking for baby #2). This makes me so sad as I never liked the thought of my son having a "popular" name (but loved the name and wanted a "normal" name.) I guess I was surprised, I don't know any other young Henry's.
How many young Henry's do you know and how old are they?

I don't know anyone by the name of Henry. I don't even remember seeing the name on class lists or in school programs.
I know not one Henry under the age of 80 right now. So it is not that popular around here. I think it's a great name. There are 3 Ethans in my sons class, guess what my sons name is? Ethan lol. When we picked it it didn't seem that popular.
I know only one Henry.
I read this interesting article about naming kids. Even when going for unusual names we still end up with the same names therefore they become common. The theory is that we go about finding names in the same way.
Still 41 doesn't actually tell you much. I mean say there were 1000 babies named. 100 were Bob, 75 were Steve....there could be only one Henry and still make 41. What I am saying is if 25% of all boys were named the same thing, 41 could be a handful of kids in the whole country which would be why you don't see many.
My oldest is a Tom, I think when he was born it was in the top five. He was the only Tom in his class till fourth grade and there were only 10 in the whole school.
Several Henrys from an 11 year old to a six month old. Names go through fashionable times. Pick a name used in the 1950's and your kid will have a known name that is no longer popular.
I don't know any Henrys. I have always loved the name . It is such an honest sounding name =) Don't worry, # 41 doesn't make it popular.
I know about five, ranging in age from 3 months to 13 years old. I do billing for midwives and it is probably in our top five names we see most often. The numbers aren't always accurate for your region, my daughters were #s 5 and 91, and we have met more of the 91s than the 5s! And with her I thought I was picking something not too common!
a very distant relative of mine has a baby named Henry.....but other than that, I don't personally know any. I LOVE the name, though!!! I think it's quite popular because of Prince Henry? Anyway, I love it!!
"Normal" = Popular
FAD names, however, are an entirely different creature.
I can think of 2... one is 4-5 and the other is 1.
I cannot honestly remember ANY Henry's that I know...and I work in a pharmacy where hundreds of peoples' names go past me every day and I don't remember any young people named Henry...a couple of older folks but they are in their 70's and 80's.
I think you should go with whatever name you love for your child...I am glad you chose Henry....it is a good solid name...AND easy to figure out how to pronounce...my brand new Grandaughters name is Ailia....and my daughter corrected me last night because I was putting the emphasis on the wrong syllable!! I think I will go along with a friends suggestion and just call her "Sweetie"....lol.
I know 2. One is 6 and one is 2.
I know about 3 or 4. I never liked it at all and thought it was for old people, but the more I hear it the more it's grown on me and I actually like it now.
I know one. He's about 3... First one I've met in years though!
I only know one and he is 15.
I think you are safe! ;)
Go for it!
One Henry and he is 2.5.
My son has a Henry in his class who just turned 4. He's the only Henry I know.
I really like Henry, and I honestly don't know any other Henrys right now. #41 on the list still doesn't seem uber-popular to me. But it's a solid classic name and it will look great on his diploma when he graduates from college. I think it's better than a classroom full of Aidens, Jaydens, Braydens, Caydens, etc.
I know one Henry, and he is almost 2.
#41 doesn't sound that high to me. My son's name is in the top 10, and we know a TON of them. I still love his name, though, and wouldn't change it even though it's so popular.
A friend of mine is getting ready to have her baby in a few months, as is naming him Henry!
I only know 1 Henry. But that was a college classmate.
Since then, I don't know any Henry named guys, nor children.
Many names are 'popular.'
Or on some list.
There are so many name lists.
Unless you make up a name, a name will be on some kind of list.
Each era, has its popular names.
Just name your baby, as you wish.
Then, there is Prince Henry.
Who most everyone knows of, because he is Royalty.
I do not know one young Henry, only one 50 yr old one :)
I don't know anyone with that name, but I think it's great!
I know one who is three yrs old , and one who is seven yrs old.
I have a Henry who is 13. It's an awesome name and I don't feel it's overused.
I know one Henry. He is my five year old son.
I know 1 and he is 1.5 y/o.
I don't know any Henrys at all! And it's a great name. I think that list is off on that one. Our son's name is really rare (or so we thought) and not on any lists, but wouldn't you know it, we know a couple of other kids with same name :( And our oldest daughter has an old fashioned name that is her grandmothers, NO ONE was using it 6 years ago that we knew of, and then months before she was born, a celeb named their kid that and then several people we knew did too :( But that I could understand since it is an old fashioned name, not a totally rare one like my Son's.
Don't worry, I'll be shocked if he has any Henrys in his classes or immediate friend circles. You have to get pretty exotic to have NO other kids with a name.
Ok, I asked all of my teacher friends on FB and so far about 5 have responded.. One has been teaching 8 years, never had a Henry.. another teaching 28 years has only had 1. and it is this year. she teaches 3rd grade.
The other 2 I am not sure how long they have been teaching and have never had a Henry.
Another has been teaching over 30 years and says she can only think of 2 she has had in all of these years.. BUT, they said maybe the Henry is a middle name? because it is a family name..
Also having lots of kids with the same names causes the children to be called by their first name and first initial of their last name..
Our daughter went to school with tons of Hannahs..
They were Hannah W, Hannah S. Hannah B and Hannah M.
The other name that was popular was Paige.. Paige B, Paige K, Paige D.. It is funny because they are still called this by the other kids they attended elementary with..
I love the name. It is a strong Executive sound to it.
Why be sad? I'd name him whatever you want. Your area might not be swamped with Henrys. When I was a kid in the midwest, I was the only one. When we moved east, I was usually one of two or maybe three. Among my circle of friends, I'm the only one again. My DD's name is far more popular, but it's my grandmother's name, so I didn't care.
I know one little Henry. He'll be 2 soon. His name fits him perfectly.
My youngest has a Henry in his daycare and he is 4
One-that I can think of. He is 6.
I love the name Henry! In fact, if I didn't have a cousin (25) and a uncle (50's) named Henry, I would have seriously considered it for my DS.
Our friend has a 3yr old named Henry. I think it's cute and classic but yes, it is becoming more common.
I know one Henry, he will be 2 next week.
My oldest, John, is #45 on the list.
My youngest, Andrew, is #10 :-)
I don't know many Henrys, but was surprised to learn that my Son, Sage, is one of 3 Sages in his school. I had never heard it as a name before we choose it for our son. Sometimes you just really never know what names are going to be popular when.
I know two Henrys... my kids have popular names too and I felt the same as you. But you know, int he grand scheme of things it probably won't matter too much. If you love the name I wouldn't worry about how many there will be in their school, ya know?
One 2 month old Henry. I love it and I'd use it if I had a boy. :)
Hmm...I...can't think of any Henrys I might know...You can never go wrong with a solid, classical name like Henry.
I know one little Henry - he is 3 years old. I think its a great name - not too popular, but still a recognizable, classic name!
I don't know any Henry's but I don't think it means anything. My son's name is around #27 and there may be only one other Luke in his grade of 100 kids. My daughter's name is around #41, and there is only one other Natalie in the entire school of 600 kids. My other daughter, Julia, her name doesn't even make the list and we know 2 other ones and a lot of people say they love the name. I don't think the list means much unless your name is in the top 5 (there are lots of little Isabella's, Emily's, Emma's, and Olivia's that we know of).
I do know at least 2 Henrys (ages 4 and 1), but don't let that worry you. It's still a great name.
I know a tween Henry. I LOOOVE the name Henry (because it is a classic name- all my girls names are names that could have been used 500 years ago, I love it) I can't stand trendy names... made-up names are WORSE. Sorry, moms:)
NOW, this is what I have to say about names: PLEASE don't let it bother you about whether or not the name is popular. You have already picked a name you liked. That is what matters, if it happens to be popular, whatever, so be it. You like the name, honestly. We have four children. We picked names we liked- without referring to the "popular list". I am not known as one to "go with the crowd", but we have picked two names that happen to be on the list.
I didn't let it affect us one way or the other. We still picked those names because that what we wanted- who cares about everyone else? :)
None, but I LOVE the name Henry.
My 5yo is named Henry...we get complimented on the name quite a bit :) Of course we love it!!!
I didn't know any others until this year - I work at a school and 2 boys named Henry just started (grades 6 and 7).
