How Does Your Daycare Charge?

I have a home daycare and am trying to get some insight on how other daycares charge. I charge weekly rates but am trying to figure out how other daycares charge for weeks with only 2 or 3 days and not a full 5 day week. such as the 1st-4th being a 4 day week and then the 28th-30th is only 3 days. do they still charge you the full week rate or is the rate divided(reg rate divided by 5 day=$ and then you pay that amount times 2 or 3 days. Example $100/week divided by 5 days is $20/day. so would you just pay $60 for weeks with 3 days or the full $100? I've had a couple friends say they are charged for the full week rate with their children. Just wanted to check with others. My rates are posted on my daycare site. www.myspace.com/channahshomedaycare

Well my situation is that I watch a family of 4, they are srs. She pays me the srs at the beginning of the month and then just blows off what she still owes which in this case is $600. Thats why I was trying to figure out if you charge/are charged for full weeks or daily in the cases of short weeks. They are full time m-f 11-6. But Then comes the problem that she owes me overtime $5/half hr/ child so in her case $20/ half hr they are late.....she was 2 HOURS late lastnight. didn't get here till after 8. She said she'd pay me $50 on friday when the dad gets paid but she has no intention on paying the other $30(for the remainder of overtime fee) or the $600. I want sooooooooo badly to tell them to find someone else BUT trying to find 4 kids to fill their spots may be hard and then I won't be able to pay my bills at all. At the moment I am able to pay my bills I just don't have the extra money for savings or vacation etc....

What can I do next?

Make it simple, you have put too much into it and everyone will be confused. Full timers - Charge a weekly rate even if there is a holiday. Part timers - 3 days a week. Payments are due every Monday and let the part timer slide to Tuesday if that is their first day there.

I have a home daycare and I charge $40/day for one child and $30/day for each additional child in a family. I gladly do part-week care, but I work from a set schedule and my families commit to a specific schedule with me (ie. M-Th, MTWF, MWF, etc.). I give every child 10 free days to miss for illness/vacation per year and after that I charge 1/2 for additional days missed. Any days that I close the daycare due to me being sick or a contagious illness that needs extra cleaning to remove, I do not charge them.
I think you're just overcomplicating things for yourself. Unless you are closed or the kids miss, every week is a 5 day week. Just because June 1st was a Tuesday, it was still a 5 day week because Monday was May 31.
Good luck!

We had a quarterly rate, paid monthly. Even though there were months with gaps (like thanksgiving) the quarters all equalled out to be the same. In between quarters there was a 2 week vacation winter and spring.

I had a day rate, a weekly rate and a part time rate. For More than 20 hours a week or more than 3 days, I charged $125. For 20 hours or less or 3 days or less it was $75. Or, for drop off, I do $25 a day.

I require all parents to pay a flat week no matter what if they are full-time. If that's what they need most of the time, they will pay that. If they come into the situation only needing part-time, then we base their week on what they will need most. If they will need 2-4 days with 3 days the average, they must pay for 3 days no matter what. I am still flexible with them on the days and they don't have to have a set schedule. So I will not let them fall below the minimum we have set for them. I really should enforce the same for the weekends or extremely part-time, but I haven't always. I have families that come only twice per month and they pay me for days they miss because they know I am here and ready to work always.

I will NOT flip between part-time and full-time and back to part-time. That's more flexibility than I am willing to provide. I need an income I can count on. I do agree with the others. Make things simple.

I take my 2 kids to an inhome daycare 3 days a week. She charges me more per day for the part-time than the people that take their children 5 days. I believe full time, it is $60 per day for 2 kids and I get charged $71. I understand this, because she may not be able to fill the other 2 days that I am not using because of my kids only being there 3 days, so she should make a little more from me then.

Our day care charges by the full week (M-F). For families who have children there part time, they pay their weekly rate prorated per the number of days the kids attend.

Because we're full-time at day care, if we have our kids out because they're sick or we're taking a long weekend, it doesn't matter, we pay the full week.

We don't do an in-home daycare, though. We're at a facility who gives us 2 free weeks/year to use at our discretion.

We did have to pay for this Monday, though, despite the center being closed for employee training. That kind of stinks since my husband had to take a day off work as well.
