Hi A.,
CitruSolv is good for getting gum out of clothes, so I guess it would work with carpets, too. It's available at Sprouts. By the way, I'd give the stuff to my husband and ask him to get to it, with son helping. Good luck!
My three year old has taken a real liking to gum, my husband never seems to remember to put his up where he cannot get into it. Well it was on our bathroom counter and my son saw it the other day and chewed it. After he was done he spit it on the carpet and it was stepped on so it is stuck to the carpet. I am not entirely sure if he put it on the carpet or if my 16 month old saw it in the bathroom trash and took it out and dropped it. Could have happened either way, but we rent and need to get this out of the carpet. I also have a question about nail polish on the carpet. One Sunday morning a couple of weeks ago my son got my mauve nail polish and clear polish off the kitchen bar and tried to paint his toe nails on our carpet. He wound up painting his toes and my carpet and it was dry by the time we found out (he woke up far earlier than we did and then went back to sleep). We tried to get it up, but it was already dry and would not come up with carpet cleaners. Has this ever happened to anyone and what did you do to get it out?
I tried the ice today because I am sick and was not feeling well enough to try it sooner. But I was able to slowly peel it off the carpet and then once all the gum was up I went over the carpet with our steam cleaner. It came up fine. As far as the nail polish, we tried nail polish remover and blotted it, but the issue is that he dumped clear on top of the mauve and it hardened so there is a golf ball sized spot that is hard and clear and just a small amount is colored. We have light colored carpet and I am afraid if we use too much it will take the actual color out of the carpet. We have tried simple green & Holy cow cleaner on it too and even just tried soaking and blotting it but nothing is getting it up.

Read my request as of today - Try a product called Holy Cow - got it at bed bath and beyound
just got a large amount of acrylic paitnt off of carpet I bet it might work for you as well
We use Goo Gone for all our gum incidents. I know you can find it in the paint remover aisle at Home Depot, and I would guess you can find it at Walmart/Target.
Good luck!
nail polish remover may stain it, i would try peanut butter. good luck!
Hi A.,
sometimes if you take nail polish remover and dump a bunch of it on the spot that has the stain it might get it out. It does not always work though.

Hi A.!
Try "Goo Gone". It will come off in pieces and take a while to come out, but it will be well worth it.
Hope this helps!! :.)

First of all did you try nail polish remover on the nail polish? As for the gum the best way to get gum out of fibers is to use peanut butter. Then when it is out use a good carpet cleaner to soak up the oil from the peanut butter.
I use Goo Gone. It works good on gum. Even used it on my daughters hair. Came right out.
Good morning SAHM,
By now you may received a good number of answers to your dilemma. The one I have used in the past is to rub a cube of ice on the gum until you can actually begin peeling it off the fibers. It works real well.
You have a full job with your children and also with those cloth diapers!
My best to you,

I'm not sure how effective it is on carpets but I do know for a fact that peanutbutter takes gum out of hair, it may work on carpets as well.
So I just had to get gum out of my jeans 2 days ago. I must not have realized that I sat in it because I didn't find it until my jeans came out of the dryer with it baked in on the back pocket. Yuck! I researched on the internet and found a solution. I microwaved some vinegar for 30 seconds and then poured it on the gum. I used an old toothbrush to brush it off, and it worked. I poured and brushed maybe 3 times- it took a total of a mimute and a half to have it all off. Even though the gum was baked in, it came off. Brilliant!! Good luck!
Use a piece of ice and rub it over the gum. The gum should form a ball. You may have to pick at it but this should do it with a little patience. Good luck!
Hi A.,
Peanut Butter gets gum out of hair, so it should work on your carpet. Then shampooing the spot or cleaner should get the peanut butter out. Hope that works!

All the responses are great . I have one that no one has mentioned. If you use either a paper bag or wax paper and iron over the gum. It should melt right onto the bag or whatever you used. Sometimes it is easier then the ice cube because it melts directly to the paper. Good luck .

For the gum: First scrape up as much gum as you can. Then try WD-40 on the gum. Let it sit for a little while. Then scrape it again.Once you have removed most of the product, use rubbing alcohol on the stain and then blot it up.
For the nail polish: Try nail polish remover on a small spot in the corner to see what it does to the carpet. If it does not discolor it, go ahead and use it on the nail polish stain. Do not rub the remover into the carpet, just keep blotting the spot.
I used nail polish remover on a dress of mine after I knocked a bottle of polish off a shelf at a store. It ALL came out! These helpful hints were from the Queen of Clean! I highly recommend her books, as they have saved me more than once-we rent too! I think she has some stuff on a website as well!
Take a ziptop plastic bag of ice. Leave it on the gum for awhile until it is very cold. Take a butter knife and gently scrape as much of it off as you can. If that doesn't work, using a hair dryer, heat the gum until gooey, then using a plastic bag, lift gum off.
I am sure you can use Goo Gone if you have it also
