How Can We Thank Our Veterinarian?

Sadly, we had to put one of our beloved pets down today due to old age. We are so thankful to our vet and her staff for being so wonderful, helpful, caring, and supportive throughout her life. They have been there for us all these years till the very end, and we wanted to show her and her staff how thankful and blessed we are to have them.

What would be a kind gesture to show our appreciation for them? A card? Flowers?

What would you suggest? Thank you in advance for your reply.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks to all those who replied! I love the idea of preparing some food for the staff. My husband happens to be a chef so this will be really perfect for us to do.

Ya'll are so great!

You can never go wrong with a card, but you might also ask if they have a fund or organization that they would like you to donate to such as spay/neuter clinics, the SPCA, programs to re-home abused or displaced animals.
I bet they could give you lots of ideas.
Yes, a card, some home made goodies...but I would go beyond that in helping other animals to receive such wonderful care.

I'm sorry for the loss of your pet, but maybe you can start a fund in her name or make donations in her name. It's a wonderful way to memorialize the years of happiness she gave to your family.

Best wishes.

I am so sorry to hear about your beloved pet.
I'm glad the vet & her staff were so kind.
I would mail a card w/your heartfelt thank you.
Ane possibly dropping off some food as a thank you: Bagels & cream cheese from a Noah's bagel store, homemade cookies & brownies, fudge etc.
It's a nice, loving tought & people in an office usually appreciate a snack.

My parents are both vets. Usually, people just send in a card that (sometimes) has a picture of the pet. They end up hanging on the fridge or the cork-board in the back of the clinic.

I am sorry youve lost a good friend. A pet is hard to lose. We lost a cat a few years ago and choose to have her cremated. The staff at the pet cemetery sent US a sympathy card! We were so touched by that gesture. I know when I am in a business I love seeing the cards sent by customers thanking them, or pointing out the great service or how they went above and beyond the job required. I think it would mean a lot to the staff and other customers to send a card of thanks that may be displayed where others can see. I also think the donation to a spay clinic is a great idea. Baking a bread or some other goodie will be a nice addition directly to the people involved.

So sorry for your loss. A card would be appreciated. And veterinary staff ALWAYS appreciate food (not that there is an office staff that does not).

How about making a donation to a local animal shelter in their name? Our vet was very active in donating his time and services to the Humane Society, for example, and a gift there would have been recieved well, I think.

So sorry for your loss. I'm glad you had a good vet's office and staff to help you through her life, it really can make a big difference.

When I worked in at a vet's a card was always great especially with a picture of the pet. We kept them on a bulletin board and then they went into a scrapbook. Cookies, fresh fruit, veggies with dip, etc were nice too and always gone quickly, but not necessary.

I totally agree with Dana. I was a vet assistant one summer, and we always appreciated a heart felt card. Food was wonderful, because we often didn't have time to have anything, let alone a snack. Really, cards were the best. The hospital kept all of them. We all were affected when someone had to put down a pet. Often, we would cry when they left. To get a card from the family, was always a blessing.

A good friend of mine is a Veterinarian, and just a few days ago she had been having a rough day where just about everything went wrong, and in the middle of the day, she found a card from a patient's family stuck in between her other papers, and said it completely turned her day around. The thoughtfulness they showed in merely remembering her and sending a thank you card made a huge difference to her -- so anything you do will be appreciated. If you're going to do something like flowers, make sure that the veterinarian who you worked with will be in the day you have them delivered.

Sorry for your loss :( . I had given my vet a nice card -with a picture of my cat in it. He took care of her since she was a kitten, so it effected him just as much as us. He was such a sweet and caring man. We also made some cookies for him and his staff.
