I can not aford a gym membership (even though I reallywish I could) and I can not find the time to go running becuase my husband works from 6:00 am until 6:30pm .

What worked quickly for me is the South Beach Diet. It is difficult to stick to for the first two weeks and then it is pretty easy to keep the weight off. You basically eat a high protein, low carb diet. The first two weeks are very restrictive (no fruit for ex.) Then you add them in in moderation. You could lose 12 pounds in the first two weeks. I find that it works even without exercise. Hopefully this helps

I totally feel your pain! With my son it took me over a year to get back in shape, let alone lose any weight. I can't afford a gym membership, and I hate running anywhere.

What I did first, was starting walking with my baby...put him in his stroller for his morning nap and walked around my neighborhood. There are lots of places you can go walking and over time that helped me start getting toned again, and burned calories.

Second thing I did was bought an exercise/fitness ball at Target for like $10, and a set of 10lb. free weight...and then, found a workout that I could do while my son was napping in the afternoon or once he was down for bed.

This is the workout I still do a year later at least three times a week...
http://exercise.about.com/library/blbeginnerball.htm

Now that I work full-time and my son is 2.5, there is even LESS time to work out...oh, and I'm a single Mom too. But, I try to fit it in at least three times a week and try to get out with my son at least once a week to a local park or just down to the grocery store. Get out of the house with your kiddos, you can even make them a part of the workout by buying a kids workout video and having your five year old do it with you!

Don't worry it will get better!! Just take a deep breath and find what works for you. The most important thing is not to defeat yourself before you even try. It took me six months to get toned once I got started and stuck with it, and now I feel great and am not super thin but feel good. Don't rush yourself and don't give yourself unrealistic goals to meet and you'll be fine.

Let me know if you ever want to chat!

Get a jogging stroller and walk/run with your 8mos old in tow. I know you said you can't afford a gym membership but if you could put away some money and do Stroller Strides or Baby Bootcamp, you'd just need to commit to it for about 3mos to get amazing results. If I had to rely on my hubby to allow me to exercise, I'd never get out. If running/walking with a jogging stroller doesn't appeal to you then get some videos, hand held weights and workout at home or if you have a friend you can trade babysitting with then do that and get out. 30min is all you need. You are very worth it so find something that will work and just do it!

Eat well and move.. the weight WILL come off! Hang in there Momma, we all know how you feel,
M.

Free videos from the library focus on pilates or something you like. Get new ones each week so you don't get bored. WALK with baby... Baby yoga dvd are good too. If your library doesn't have a lot you can request anything online and they'll have it waiting for you at the desk.

Breast feed! Great for you & baby!!! Burns about 500 calories per feeding and THE BEST thing made for your baby.

Cardio and a lower calorie diet. Try getting a jogging stroller and having your 5 yr old ride a bike along side you. Eat smaller portions and eat about 5-6 times a day. It will work!

Ok I've had success with the following-- I tried that Lipozene that you see on tv, got it at WalMart for $20-$25 for a 30 day supply. I used the minimum and lost 5 lbs of fat within 2 weeks. I've got to get more but it works like a charm! Once the belly fat is gone it's time to workout. Now I've got a 7 month old and my husband works fulltime on one day that I have off, so working out is extremely hard, mostly because she naps for maybe 30 minutes. But I've got this stretching routine that I downloaded online, plus a 5lb workout ball that came with a DVD AND I've got Pilates for Dummies. They all work great when I can find the time!

I would check into if there's a mom/baby group in your area that does stroller workouts together. Maybe thru your community center or hospital. I remember seeing something about post baby workout groups in my hospital's schedule of classes that they offer. Something like that may work. Or if you have a mom's group maybe you can check with another mom to trade off a half hour of child care so you could get a run in 3x a week? My neighbor and I did that for a while. I'm in the same boat with the belly fat! An older mom that I know (her kids are grown) told me your body after baby just changes. You lose all the weight but it's just different. She said it's not about the quantity that you're left with - it's about the quality! Which is the total truth!! Good luck to you!

Hi J.,
now, it probably took you more than 8 months to feel like yourself again the first time around, your memory has just gotten foggy. If I recall, it took me at least a whole year to feel like I was back where I started (I've only got 1 so far). Now with #2 I don't think you can expect to go back as quickly as you did with #1. Also hon, keep in mind you are 5 years older than you were back then. Think of your body at 20, 25, 30... it gets increasingly harder to stay in shape as you get older, we can't expect to have the same results in our 30's that we had in our twenties (makes me wish I had appreciated how easy it was to stay slim in my late teens and 20s!)
I guess I am saying that you are being to harsh on yourself. You will get there, it just might take a little longer.
I fully know the frustration of trying to find time to get a run in or go to the gym. This is always the hardest time of the year, before the time change when it gets dark so early. As it starts to get lighter, be prepared to head out for a 20 min run when your husband gets home. I know the last thing a man wants to do after a long day at work is go on immediate babysitting duty, but you need this time for your personal wellness, and it's only 20 minutes.
I agree with whoever said the jogging stroller is a must. At the very least you can go on some daily brisk uphill walks with your son in his regular stroller.
Consider the gym membership- I think I pay $25 a month for 24 hour fitness and they have a childcare room, it's like $2 everytime. Worth it for me!
Really though, you could be jumping rope and doing 100 crunches in your backyard for free during your kids nap.
You know what to do, it's no secret how to lose weight (diet and exercise) sounds like you just needed some encouraging words to get you out of your slump.
Good luck!

Hi J.,

Along with low glycemic eating and a half hour of exercise daily, I take a weight loss formula that reduces the Leptin in my system so that it quits storing fat around my middle. I've stablized my 144 pound lose and have gone on to safely lose 38 more pounds and 11 inches off my waist in 12 short weeks. If you would like to check out my website:

Dear J. L.
I am a stay a home mom and understand the frustration of the body problems after having babies. Here is a solution:
There is a company called ARDYSS INTERNATIONAL that has a body garment called the postpartum body reshaper. It is designed to move your organs back into place and shift and lose the extra tissue around the stomach/hip area. Go to the website: www.ardysslife.com/en/unipaat and look under the reshaper section. Testimonies are pouring in on how well this works. Order directly on line. The best to you!
If you are interested in becoming a distributor with this company, leave your information on the website and I will contact you. P.

Weight watchers helped me a lot after my second child. I lost 30 lbs. You can do it online or go to the meetings. It will teach you a lot about portion control which I have carried with me since I went to them six years ago. Combine this with some walking of simple exercise. Remember, it is a process and lifestyle change. You are going for long term here so be patient with yourself. You will do great!

I am going through the very same exact struggle right now. I just began weight watchers again, but more importantly...I have fallen in love with the exercise TV on Demand. If you have Digital cable go through your guide and search for free in demand. and go to the lifestyles section or directly to exercise TV on demand and scroll through all the wonderful workouts. (In Hawaii exercise in demand is Ch. 969) You will not get bored and there are some serious ab and all over work outs..best of all..it's FREE!
