Do you have any recommendations for hotels in West yellowstone? I am looking for some nice place(which is not extremely pricey) to stay close to yellowstone national park , as I am not finding anything inside the park for this summer. I have been waiting for any last minute cancellations, but nothing as yet.
As of now we have availability in Lazy G motel, it has good reviews on tripadvisor. If you have stayed at this place, how did you like your stay there? Lot of reviews mention there is no A/C in the room , so I am a little concerned booking this place.
I have to book a decent place(that is very clean, has all basic amenities and also has a kitchen since I plan to cook there) soon.

If you have any recommendations, please do share with me. I am going there next month, very excited and also little worried too because I will be travelling with my 3 year old. I am hoping and looking forward to have a great time there!

What can I do next?

What about staying in bozeman. It is a beautiful 70 minute drive to Yellowstone (either entrance). Just a thought...

Hi. West Yellowstone, MT is a very small town. Unfortunately, it's pretty late to find something during their very short, very busy summer season. However, depending on which part of August you plan to be there things might be winding down and there might be more availability. We were there in the 2nd or 3rd week of August two years ago and that was definitely the case then. Still busy, but less so than July.

Anyhow, we stayed at the Holiday Inn. From what I remember from looking into lodging is that it was the nicest hotel in West Yellowstone. However, it is a basic hotel and does not have kitchens. I'm not sure it even had a fridge. There is a restaurant on site, a family restaurant just down the street and it is less than a mile from the entrance to the park.

How much time you plan to spend in your room might determine whether you need the AC. It does get hot during the day, but the nights also really cool off, more so the later in August you are there. If you are planning to cook I think you might need to go the route that the other poster suggested and rent a house or cabin. You could also try a bigger town like Cody, WY, but that is an hour drive before you even get to the entrance to the park and then there's a lot of driving within the park. Personally, I think that would be difficult with a 3-year-old.

Good luck and have fun.

I just don't have the info with me where we stayed in 2007 but we found it on a site with rental homes. It was perfect spot 4 miles outside Yellowstone area on Montana side. It was right near the downtown Yellowstone bear museum and a ranch where we road horses. It must be on the boarder. there are tons of these types of houses online through trip advisor or rentals....some are about $1000 a week. All furnished. It was a awesome way to travel, cook and have everything we need.

Book soon or you may not be able to get anything at all. The first week in August is the Sturgis bike rally in South Dakota. Although that seems a long way from Yellowstone, many bikers travel to and through Yellowstone to extend their rally trip. Growing up a 100 miles from Yellowstone we often heard tourists complain that they couldn't find hotel rooms from west of Yellowstone to as far east as Sioux Falls, SD.
