I just simmer a pot of apple cider with a couple cinnamon sticks and orange slices, sometimes a handful of cranberries. It makes the house smell wonderful. I don't think you have to be very exact on the recipe.
I am having a small New Year's Eve party tomorrow night and want to make hot cider. Does anyone have an easy, yummy (non-alcohol) cider recipe? I know there is one with red hots and cinnamon but I don't have the exact amounts of each ingredient. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!!

foodnetwork.com or epicurious.com are my two favorite recipe sites
I am a Christian too! I am a 48 yr old Mom and Grandma of two. I love this recipe for apple cider! 2 T Karo Syrup, half a bag of red hot cinnamons, 1 T. butter or margarine, One 2 Qt of Apple juice, One half teaspoon of cinnamon. A delicious recipe you will love-Mix, heat and serve!! Happy New Year
Hi C.,
I discovered a good cider recipe by accident-
Equal Parts:
Pressed Cider from Grocery Store
Water
Apple Juice
Then for every cup (I measured each component using a mug)or proportion of the above I put in 3:2 Hot Cider Mix (from the grocery store) (I put a mug of each of the liquids and then 2 pkgs of cider mix).
I got a tea ball (for loose tea leaves to brew) and put in as much of a cinnamon stick as I could get in there along w/ several cloves and let it simmer on med-low for about 1/2 an hour b/f my guests got there.
The house smelled like mulled cider and my friends who drank it (thay drank it b/f I had a chance to try it :-) said is was GREAT.
Hope this helps,
Happy New Year!

Here is a wonderful recipe I made for Christmas.
Cranberry Tea
1/2 C Cinnamon red hots candy
2C Sugar
12 whole cloves
4 QTS water divided
1 QT cranberry juice cocktail
1C orange Juice
2/3C lemon juice
Combine candy, sugar, cloves and 1 qt water in a large saucepan. Heat stirring constantly, until candy and sugar is dissolved and the mixture comes to a boil. Stir in juice and remaining water and heat. Remove cloves before serving. Serve hot. Makes around 5 qts. We even had some cold the next day was so then too.
Here a another one I found in my cookbook that does use apple cider or apple juice. I have not use it so can not tell you how good it is.
PaPa Bear's Hot Punch
2 to 4 sticks of Cinnamon
10 t0 14 whole cloves
2(2qt.) bottles apple juice or 1 gal. apple cider
1(2 liter( bottle lemon lime soda ( Sprite or Mello Yellow)
1(6oz) can frozen orange juice concentrate
6 to 7 (1 gram) Pkgs sweet and Low artificial sweetener
Put cinnamon and cloves in the basket of a 36 cup electric coffee percolator. Put the remaining ingredients in bottom and let perk. Makes 16 cups.
Hope this helps some.
Try buying some cider from the Grocery Store. I like the ones from Wal Mart. The cloudy one in the produce is the best. I pour it in a crock pot or a big pan and add cinnamon sticks and cut up an orange and let it steam for at least 3-4 hours
Your're guest will love it!!!!
I know I'm late responding, but the Red Hots cider is our family favorite and so easy! For future reference, we use 5 oz. Red Hots to 2qts. apple sauce. (I just estimate about half of the 10- or 12-oz. package.) You can simmer it on the stove or in a crock pot. My aunt even puts in in her coffee pot and keeps warm on the coffee maker! I also like the festive red color of this cider! So pretty in clear mugs or punch cups! May God bless you in the New Year!
I have a recipe for Russian Tea that is even better than cider. I use to love cider but once I tried this I haven't fixed cider since. Boil 8 cups water, 1 1/2 sugar, 1 small cinnamon stick and 3 cloves. In the meantime, bring 2 cups water to a boil and brew 2 large tea bags for 7 minutes. Then add boiled mixture and 1 small can frozen pineapple-orange juice, 1 jar marachino cherries and juice and 2 real lemons for their juice to tea. I hope you enjoy this as much as my family does- even my 8 year old daughter loves it and asks for Aunt Lynn's tea.
I know I am responding too late, but allrecipies.com has everything you can think of.
I made the one with red hots for Christmas. It was super easy. I bought one big bottle of apple cider and one bag of red hots. I put them in a big soup pot and melted the red hots in the cider. That's it! I got the recipe from on line. Here's the link, http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,193,145164-247204,00.html, It gives exact measurements.
