I've heard AMAZING things about Dr. Lisa, but I have an additional suggestion...what about one of the community health centers? I don't know where you live, but there are two in Rogers Park. One called Access on Howard and another called Heartland Health Outreach on Touhy. I can get you the addresses and phone numbers if you're interested.

Dear K., In theory, one ovarian cyst can not prevent a pregnancy from the other ovary. On the other hand, some of the other responders did have difficulty getting pregnant because of ovarian cystic issues. Your fertility and ovarian health are very important. Here's another health provider: Chicago Women's Health Center 3435 N Sheffield near Wrigley Field. Accessable by Red or Brown line or #22 Clark bus. Go to their web site for more info. They are financially friendly! For any other message readers-They love volunteer workers and donors.

you can go to a planned parenthood or one of the state run clinics they will be able to check it out for you. The hospitals can not turn you away for treatment just because you have no insurance. your other option is cook county hospital.

have it checked out - to make sure it's benign. also, better to have it removed before getting pregnant as it could interfere with your pregancy down the road. I ended up not having to, but there was good chance I was going to have to a surgery to remove my cyst in my third trimester -definitely not ideal.

Hi K., the other posts have ideas about where to get medical care. My advice is regarding the cyst-it may very well be affecting your fertility. What they usually do is to remove it through a laparoscopy (tiny incision on lower abdomen, they go in and remove it using different methods). I have had 3 of these procedures. I was also having pain with my cysts. It was only after removal was I able to get pregnant. Best of luck to you.

Hi K., I have a similar situation; the cyst is very small and dr. said getting pregnant shouldn't be a problem -- however, no pregnancy so far, for me, either... I hope this will improve for you. Also I wanted to let you know there is a very good option for medical care, if you live in suburban Cook County or in certain areas in the city of Chicago. It's called Access to Care: http://www.sphcc.org/ click on "access to care" -- I hope this will be helpful to you and please feel free to let me know if you have questions.

Hello, I have an even better alternative. If you believe in chinese medicinal herbs you can go to a DR. Lisa Lau in china town. She is known to be a miracle doctor on women's issues. I had a cyst on my left ovary that was about 2cm, it wasn't a simple cyst as the doctors informed me. They wanted to perform a surgical procedure to remove it but, I knew that she'd help. I'd been to her before for a separate issue and I've sent 2 other women that suffer from fibroids to her and we can all attest that the chinese herbs remedied all our issues. You can google her to see what she's done. She specializes in women's issues. Her phone number is ###-###-####. All she charges is $50. Give it a try.

I am not a doctor so don't get crazy for this. But I went through infertility years ago. there is a thing called Poly-cystic ovarian syndrome (pcos) that could make it difficult to get pregnant--though not impossible. Some women with this have cysts on the ovary and some do not. It can effect a woman's ovulation cycle.

You can try Cook County, but I know that they are especially understaffed for OB/GYN related problems these days. I think last time I heard the waiting list for any treatment was something like 3 months. Really just crazy and unfortunate. Still, it wouldn't hurt to check. I know a lot of other neighborhood clinics run by UIC and Northwestern have free care or care on a sliding income scale. Do you qualify for medicaid or WIC at all? You may want to check.

To reassure you, lots of women walk around with ovarian cysts. I don't think having one will affect your fertility, though it may be painful for you.

Try Cook County hospital. The wait is very long but they don't turn anyone away.
