I am looking into homeshooling my girls 8 and 6 years old. I was hoping to attend an informational meeting. Does anyone have a connection or a group that I could contact? I live in the Desert Ridge area in North Phoenix.

What can I do next?

I found this list of groups in your area here.

Our area has a few networks that meet for activities mainly through a Meet-Up site. There was never an informational meeting, but you can talk to moms that have been doing it at the group events or contact your organizers. Then you'll have to decide what type of homeschooling you want to do: cyber, unschooling, classical style, Christian, whatever and start to research the materials in the style your interested in and try to meet other people doing what you want to do. I do a classical style and the book "The Well Trained Mind Guide to Classical Education" is an awesome resource with lots of information and material referenced. There are other curriculums which are all laid out for you if you prefer that and many many other options...contact a group and start to pick some brains

The state convention has a free session the night before the full convention in June. http://www.afhe.org/convention_thursday_miniconference.html (I haven't been so I don't know how helpful it will be, but it looks good).

My daughter is in 8th grade and she is doing arizona connections academy online. They will provide your kiddos with laptops as well for free, u will need to return it of course. I have enjoyed it, good luck.

definitely contact AFHE (Arizona Families for Home Education)...their newsletter, support and homeschool conference (in July or August) are invaluable resources. also check out hslda.org (Homeschool legal defense Association) for lots and lots of info. Best wishes...I'm finishing up the last of 5 and would do it all over again if i could!
