I am planning a surprise birthday for my husbands 40th birthday. It is turning out to be alot harder than I thought it would be....It took me a couple of months to find a place that was not already booked (and I started in January)since I'm having it July 4th weekend. Now I am ready to find entertainment. I'm looking for a Country Band that is at a reasonable price. Everyone I have talked to wants like 3500 and that is out of my budget. If anyone has any ideals for Country bands or any other type of entertainment, I am open to anything right now. I just want to get everything booked so I can quit stressing over it.

Thank you moms so much for all the great ideals. After talking to some friends and family I have decided to do a DJ and Casino party. Hopefully it will be alot of fun.

My brother-in-law is Chris Brade - he's just beginning to really make it on the country scene. His band is awesome and is based in Houston. You can check out his music at www.myspace.com/chrisbradeband. I don't know if they're already booked for July 4 - but I would love to have them come into town to visit us if they perform at your party! The contact info is on the website if you want to get a demo cd as well. Good luck - whatever you decide on, I hope the party is fun!!

I am a director of catering at a local hotel and have a contact that you might like. Allstarproductions. They can do just about anything! Great entertainment. Cameron Fox at www.allstarproductions.net ###-###-####. Or you can try looking on the Association of Wedding Professionals web-site www.awpdallas.com, there are several DJ's on that site that I work with quite often. Any of them would be great. Hope this helps!

I don't know of any strictly country bands, but you might check out The Eight Tracks. They play a lot of 70's music, plus some more recent stuff, too. Their website is www.discostillsucks.com. They do a lot of private parties, and also play a Poor David's Pub and at Cool River in Los Colinas, and would be a blast for a 40th birthday. If you use them, tell Jeff Borgman that S. referred you.

I know an awesome entertainer who doesn't charge an arm and a leg. His name is Kurt South--- great music, lots of fun!! We used to go see him all the time at woodys tavern and the white elephant saloon-- but now i have two little ones at home so we don't get out all that much!! I'm good friends with his wife and I just found out he's still available for shows that weekend!!! You can listen to and/or contact him through his band's myspace page-- www.myspace.com/kurtsouth.
Good luck!!

Check with local colleges and high schools. Call the music department of colleges and band departments of high schools to see if they can recommend anyone. You could also put ads up on college campus bulletin boards.

Have you tried Craig's List? (craigslist.com) If you use this option, just be sure to ask anyone who replies for references. (There are some real flakes on Craig's List!)

If you know any high school age kids, ask them if they have any friends with a good band that might suit your needs. Most kids who are in bands have rock bands, but there surely must be a few out there who are into country.

I hope these ideas help!

Good luck,
M.

Have you thought about hiring Belly Dancers. There is one troupe out there that will send as many dancers that you would like & they even have their bios on a page so you can decide before calling & reserving. The website you need to look at would be www.isisandthestardancers.com Good luck & hope you have fun. They also have different styles of dancers, hula included, & they like to get audiences to participate. I have seen them perform several times & they are just an upbeat group of girls.
