I am looking for a product that works well (with little stinging if possible) to help with mosquito bites. My youngest has an awful time with mosquito bites. We use mosquito repellents or Avon So Soft so she does not get many bites. The few she gets she itches them constantly and they often get infected as a result. She must have a slight allergy to the bites. Does anyone know of a topical product that can be put on top of the bite that works well with taking away the itchiness quickly?

What can I do next?

Sounds simple but try just a baking soda and water paste- it should take calm the itchiness and help dry it out but won't sting and is all natural.

I can remember when I was little my grandmother pooring rubbing alohol on my legs. It stung like crazy and I would cry. My grandmother would tell me "if you'd stop scratching then I wouldn't have to do this". It was awful but it kept the infection away, helped dry the bites and made me think twice about scratching :) But I would try the baking soda!

If you are an all-natural type person then baking soda with just enough water to make a thick paste works for many people. We have had good luck at our house with Benadryl and Gold Bond. You can find both of them at just about any pharmacy or drugstore. Oh, and my son (6-1/2 years) is partial to Afterbite, but it is much harder to find than the other two products.

M.-- my son's mosquitp bites get so swollen that I initially took him to the doctor because it scared me. My pediatrician recommended Benadryl Anti-Itch Gel (I think that's what it's called).

I have had good luck with AfterBite and there is also a Fire Ant cream (I bought it at HEB, sorry I can't remember the name) that works well not only for fire ant bites, but for mosquito bites too. The key is to get what ever you decide to use on quickly, and put on repeated applications. If it does get to the infection stage, I use neosporin and a bandage to get rid of the infection and keep from scratching it further.

Hope that helps.

My daughter has allergic reactions to mosquito bites. I use bug braclets to keep the mosquito's from bitting her. They work great!!!!! I use the brand called "Bug Off" (Adult size works better, just smells stronger than the kid size). I purchase them from CVS (stock up in the summer as they can be hard to find after summer) also I purchased a new brand from Whole Foods but have not used it yet and I have also seen different brands at Academy. They are chemical free and last for up to 40 hours (just store in reuseable container or ziplock bag). When my daughter was little I attached the braclet to her belt loop in the back and she never messed with it. When she got older I put in on her ankle then finally on her wrist. When the mosquitos are really bad I will put one on her wrist and one on her ankle. I sent bug braclets to day care and my daughter was very good about wearing them espcially the glow in the dark braclet (her friends thought they were cool). I also heard that fabric softener sheets kept mosquitos away but I have not tried it. You might want to use Mederma on the bug bites ater the itching has gone away. Mederma works wonders on reducing scaring. Good Luck!

Hi, I read about a product in a childrens magazine called Afterbite. It is wonderful! No stinging, it comes in a tube and is great, you can get it at Target, ask the pharmacist to direct you to where it is.
