My kids LOVE chocolate milk and we've had several shirts and dresses ruined from spilling. Has anyone found a really good stain remover for chocolate milk, chocolate ice cream, etc.? I've tried Lestoil, Oxyclean, Shout, Zout, Spray N Wash and no luck. I am tired of throwing clothes in the rag bin! I would love some laundry advice!

Thanks ladies!

I have an All Fabric Bleach that works wonders! You make it into a little paste and put it onto the stain, let it sit for about 15 minutes and then just brush away the powder. So far haven't found anything that it won't work on-- even the mystery stains! It's even good for spot cleaning the carpet. It's less than $13 for up to 40 washloads.

Let me know if you have any questions, and BTW it's 100% money back if you're not completely satisfied!

Original Dawn dishwashing liquid is the best thing. Squirt some Dawn directly on the stain and scrub it in the fabric with one of those little round brushes you can get at the Dollar Store. Works every time!

I know this sounds weird, but use Dawn dishwashing soap. Buy the plain kind of Dawn, not the kind with all of the extra moisturizers. Put a couple drops on the stain (as soon as possible after the chocolate gets on the clothing), add a little water, and scrub. It will come right out!

Try Dawn dishwashing detergent....just pour the liquid directly on the spot and let it sit. It gets out grape koolaid, greasy spots and other things. It's the best and cheapest I know of. I have a physically and mentally disabled son, so I understand your situation. He is the happiest and most fun 26 yr old I know. We have a wonderful church that has a big special needs ministry. There is a class on Sat nite at 5:30 pm and Sun morning at 9:30. Let me know if you're interested. It's Hope Presbyterian Church in Cordova. The special needs ministry began almost 20 years ago with my son.

First, once it is put in the dryer, it will be set. That will make it either impossible or near impossible to remove. Also watch the heat of the water you use.
Secondly, if you spray it with what ever your favorite prewash product is as soon as it happens, that is key. Get it before it sets. You may also want to try to rinse it out with cold water while it is fresh. That will get some of it out. I see you have tried Lestoil which is my all time favorite. In my home hints book it says, to remove cocoa and chocolate stains, scrub the stained area immediately with ammonia. However, with all that being said, I have been using the Melaleuca products and found the PreSpot and Solumel to be great. I recently spilled red wine one a colored top while I was visiting out of town. When I got home a week later, I used my Melaleuca Prespot then washed with their laundry detergent and there is absolutely no trace of red wine! Good stuff! Good luck!

chocolate is about the only thing I can't get out. I have gotten it out before and it's because I treated right away. Keep a tide pen with you, but if the kids can take off the clothes right away, apply shout, let soak then add oxy to the wash it usually comes out. If I have time I will make a paste of the oxy clean and scrub scrub scrub. Or just always dress them in white so it can be bleached :-)

good luck

I use a product from Melaleuca and it is awesome. I use their products and save tons of money. the laundry soap does 92 loads - equal to 6 gallons of Tide and I save nearly $50 on my soap. Their soap removes stains that have been in my clothes for quite awhile. It might be worth investigating for your problem, here's their website
www.ahealthcafe.com/support. I hope this might help. We have seven children and I know about stains! Several of them are athletes and get major stains!

IF you can get to it same day, spray & wash or your other stain fighters will work, here's the secret:

saturate with spray & wash, scrub/rub the fabric together (just with your hands) until you see the stain disappearing. It takes a little extra elbow grease & an extra minute of your time, but it works.

My daughter is the chocolate stain master & we were visiting my mom, I watched her do this & was stunned at how clean she got my daughter's clothes.

Happy Laundering!

Just looked in my washer and sure enough chocolate stain is gone on our son's shirt(and stain was set in). Spray and Wash MAX overnight and washed in warm water. HOwever I found that stains come out better out of brand name clothes(like Gap and Gymbo) than from the ones from walmart.....no idea why.

I wanna read your other posts, but first I recommend 'Totally Awesome' (cheap all-purpose spray cleaner available at most dollar stores) for most food stains. It's wonderful, but not sure about chocolate. If the garment is white cotton (or cotton/polyester blend), you can use bathroom cleaner with bleach even for set-in stains. I work with 2 handicapped men (both 50), and one had a white T-shirt with set-in stains (that looked to be chocolate). It had gone through several washings, and I got it TOTALLY clean with the bathroom cleaner!!

God bless (you, yours, AND the USA)!
Happy Independence Day!

As soon as the drink is spilled on their shirt, get regular white toothpaste, not the fancy one with stripes or colored blue, plain white toothpaste and rub it in the shirt like you're washing with soap. You will see the stain just come of then put it in the washer. Stains will come off. Toothpaste takes off a lot of stains in anything, tea, coffee you name it. One time I came home and my puppies were chewing an ink pen, it was all over the rug, I took toothpaste and a toothbrush and just brushed and brushed it off. Everything came off. My rug still looks like new without stains at all. My husband was so amazed because he never thought ink would come off the rug. Try it. You will be amazed. Hope this helps.

I use the spray-n-wash stain stick to pretreat all stains every night as I take the clothes off my kids and myself for that matter till I wash then before I wash I go through and on major stains I use the shout advanced and treat again and let it sit for at least an hour. I wash in cold water cause I ofund that warm water can set stains in worse. I check all my clothes before I put them into the dryer for stains that are still there and set those aside and put the rest into the dryer. I take the still stained clothes and try to figure out what the stain is if its a greasy stain I use lestoil or the bleach pen if its on a small white part of a shirt and so on. I also have a small toothbrush I use to scrub though stains from both sides of hte fabric. If it comes out right away I rinse it and toss it in the dryer with the other clothes if not I soak it for a few hours and wash it again later. Ive never really had issues with chocolate milk the only stains Ive really had problems with are artifical colors like Koolaid using this methood. I know its seems like a pain in the butt process but my kids dont really grow and my daughter sometimes uses clothes for 2 winters or 2 summers and they last pretty well.

The best stain remover I have found is Nature Bright made by Shaklee. Go to www.shaklee.com

It does not take a lot and for stubborn stains I fill a sink up (or bucket) and place the clothes in it. Then I put a scoop of the Nature Bright in it and let it sit all day...sometimes longer sometimes less...just depends on the stain. They I just pour/toss the clothes and water (if you are using a bucket) into the wash. Comes out stain free. Here are the stains I have gotten out:

blood, red juice, popsicle, chocolate, poop, red food coloring (don't ask...LOL), blueberries, marker, and even year old baby spit up that I found after unpacking clothes from the attic! (had to soak 2 days)

Hope you get the stains out.

The only thing I can find to get out chocolate stains is the Pink Hand Soap- you know, the kind that are in most public restrooms. It has to be the pink kind. We have some in our bathrooms at work, and it always does the trick on the cafe mocha I manage to spill on myself at least once a week. I sometimes squirt a little bit in a bottle and take it home if I have a real nasty stain. I have no idea where you can buy it, so I am not much help there. lol

I am not sure what kind of chocolate you use. But I use Ovaltine, 1 Tbsp per cup or bottle. My kids get it on their clothes, the bedding, you name it. I use Shout and it gets it out. I have not used another chocolate so I am not sure how it works on that. Good Luck and God Bless.

T.,

I skimmed your responses in a hurry -in haste I saw that the only *safe* answer you got was the Shaklee one. Most stain removers are harsh on clothes *and* on those little ones breathing.

I use PreSpot from Melaleuca that works by live enzymes on stains. The advice to spray and leave by some with the harsh removers can be dangerous - I've seen them eat holes in clothes. But - PreSpot can literally be left on overnight - for a week - whatever! I've had great success with it on 99% of strains and chocolate is not exception.

I did not see ONE important fact in the responses - you MUST (I'm not yelling - just don't want you, in the name of time to miss this) - MUST use COLD WATER with chocolate. You may have had a mom that taught you that...but many did not - so I didn't want to assume you knew it. I usually spray the chocolate...scratch it gently with my finger nail or a brush...let it set a bit and it comes out with PreSpot every time...

I have found that the dreft spray works great. I started using is when my little one was born and it seams to get everything out. I even use it on the rest of our clothes. It is a bit pricey like the detergent, but if it saves clothes it is worth it.
Good luck

I noticed that you said you tried Oxyclean. I am not sure which type you have used but recently, I purchased the spray kind that you spray directly onto the clothes. I have noticed that it takes the stains right out of my children's clothes. I recently used it on my daughter’s white capri pants. She had gotten grass stains on them. I was really surprised it took it right off.

I would also recommend that you spray the Oxyclean directly on the stain as soon as possible. It is a little tougher to get out when you let it set in. I let it soak into the garment for about ten minutes, rub it in a couple of times and then throw it into the washer. So far, I have used it to get out chocolate milk, ketchup, and grass stains.

Good Luck!
