Help My Daughter Keeps Vomiting

My daughter who is 4 has been vomiting since Friday of last week. She came home from school complaining of a stomach ache and about two to three hours later she began throwing up and she threw up at least three more times that evening. On saturday was the same frequency of vomiting, then on Sunday it tapered off to once. Then on Monday my husband watched her at home and he said she did not throw up at all. Tuesday I took my daughter to work with me and she had apple juice and a small portion of a hash brown and she threw that up about an hour later. I took her to the doctor on Tuesday and they found blood in her urine and stated that she could have an infection.

The took some blood from her and are running tests on her so I have to wait for that but they told me to give her bland foods only such as rice and chicken and jello, no fast foods whatsoever.

This evening we had oriental food and she had rice that I believe had teriyaki sauce on it and she threw that up. I am worried because she did good all day today, her school said she didn't throw up at all and as soon as we have this food, she throws it up. I am trying to be patient and wait for the blood test results but I am worried. My daughter is small for her age and I don't want her to lose weight or have an illness that it causing her to do this.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

Call the doctor back and let him know she is still throwing up. And ask if the test results are in yet. It really should only take a day for the results to be in, but labs get busy and may put your daughters off, the doc needs to have a rush put on them. Make sure she stays hydrated in the meantime. I had kidney failure several years ago, which I totally could have avoided (another story). The best thing you can do for her is tons of water and pedialyte (and I mean TONS). Have her drinking almost all the time. This will also help flush anything out of her system. Sorry you have to go thru this!! Hope she starts feeling better soon.

yea, no milk, no salty foods, no greasy foods, nothing with spice or flavor, basically. I would stay away from juice, too, because she needs fluids that are more hydrating (like water or pedialyte- not gatorade, the carbs (ie sugar) in gatorade are there for atheletes to replenish energy, but simple hydration is more important in your daughter's case). Stick with water, toast, crackers, maybe a banana if that sounds good to her. If she really starts to feel better try eggs- I always think that's a crazy suggestion, but it's what my mom gave us when we were sick, and if you think about it it's bland, but good protein to help keep energy up. Chicken soup, too, is the best thing in the world. I know they can't prove it actually has healing properties for sure, but I know it just plain makes me feel better when I'm yucky. But focus on keeping her hydrated and not as much on worrying about weight loss.

When the doc's say bland food they mean bland. White or brown rice with nothing else...no sauce! I would recommend sticking strictly to the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apple sauce and toast). Those food tend to cause the stomach little to no upset but still provide nutrition. You can add a little bit of butter to the rice and toast but I wouldn't over do it. Jell-o should be fine but I would stick to simple cherry or strawberry and nothing crazy. Of course a lot of water or Pedialyte water, plain popsicles (nothing with ice cream) and no milk. Totally push the no added sugar cranberry juice cocktail watered down for the urinary tract (don't go sugar free because it has aspartame). Always remember when you have a child vomiting you must keep them hydrated with fluids...you don't want a dehydrated child and when they are vomiting or have diarrhea they tend to get dehydrated quickly. I am sure she will be fine but you need to keep in mind what you are feeding her.
