Please help..my 9yr old still wets the bed. I've tried everything for him to stop, even taking him to the doctors for any bladder problems. They tell me he'll grow out of it..well, I'm ready for him to grow out of it! Any advice or helpful tips. I've tried the pads and he still goes and doesn't wake up...I wake him up 2 or 3 times a night, he still goes...no more drinking after 7pm, still goes. Please help!

What can I do next?

If it makes you feel any better you are speaking about my son to the T! I have done everything you have! The doctors tell me the same thing that he will grow out of it. I just wanted to let you know that your son is not the only one struggling with bed wetting. Keep me posted if things change for you and I will do the same!

Best of luck to you and your son!

My son wet the bed till he was 13. We did the alarm which helped alot and DDAVP which helped too. But it didn't end completely till age 13.

Just try to make your life more manageable.... go to www.bedwettingstore.com and buy a waterproof mattress cover, an alarm if he's ready for one because they're expensive, and some disposible pads you put on top of the waterproof mattress pad. Then you can teach him to pull off the disposible pad and throw it away and get a new one and the mattress will be dry still.

If he doesn't wake up from wetting the bed, then don't wake him. There's no point. And waking him up in the middle of the night to take him to the bathroom is pointless too. It doesn't make a difference. All of us who have lived with this have tried it all. Just simplify his bedding to an easy to wash blankent, forget the topsheet, and bottom sheet, a disposible pad, a waterproof mattress cover.

Simplify his pjs to easy off shorts, forget the underwear, and a t shirt. Have multiples since you're going to be doing alot of laundry.

Good-Night Pants help him stay dry. Diet changes may help. DDAVP can help. Time will help.

I've been there and thought it would NEVER end, but it does. Just spend the money on some supplies to make life easier for you.

I don't really have any help for you other than to let you know that you are not alone. My son has been a bedwetter since day one, and can tell you that with him the only thing anyone wants to do is give him one of those alarms you wear on your underwear. I had one as a child and my problem got worse so I do not reccomend them at all.

Anyway, bedwetting can be caused by numerous things. Not enough of the hormone that "shuts down" urine production at night, too small of a bladder, an over-active bladder, and on and on. Do understand though that typical bedwetting is not considered a problem until children are about 8 years old (and even then, NOT a big deal until AFTER puberty)!

The urologist we saw said to cut way back on caffine, chocolate, carbonation, and citrus...cut out liquids after 4pm and only small amounts with dinner...make sure he uses the bathroom EVERY 2 hours and sits/stands for at least 2 minutes every time (to make sure the bladder is completly empty), and most importantly that the problem would not change if the child did not think it was a problem. My son is also 9 and wets the bed nearly every night. I have a waterproof protector on his bed and I wash sheets daily (as goodnights are WAY TOO expensive to use every night). My son does not feel his bedwetting is a problem so he is not ready to make an effort to change. So as much as I push, he will not use the restroom every 2 hours, he will not stay in there for 2 minutes, he sneaks drinks well into the evening...so I have stopped fighting. I figure as long as nothing is medically wrong (and we have had many tests), and he is OK with it...eventually he will decide that this is not what big boys do. Until then, I have choosen not to fight this battle.

Sorry I'm not much help. Just wanted to let you know what our experiences have been. Hope you get some answers.

Have him tested for a dairy allergy. I wet the bed until I was 10 and didn't find out until I was much older that I had a dairy allergy. Just google dairy and bedwetting to find articles. It's often mentioned as a rare cause of bedwetting, but I surmise it's far more common than they realize.

Also, given the severity of the issue, if the dairy issue doesn't pan out, I would ask the doctor for DDAVP, which is a synthetic hormone that will tell the kidneys to retain water. It sounds like he likely has low ADH (anti-diuretic hormone), which is the hormone that tells the kidneys to hold onto some water. If your son also pees frequently if he drinks alot during the day, he likely has this issue as well. Most doctors won't test for this as they assume this only happens if you're near kidney failure. But, it can be caused by environmental exposure to toxins, including mold.

Does your son drink milk? If so, try no milk after 3 or 4 in the afternoon. When my oldest was 6, I read about this. We had tried everything so I gave it a shot. In one week or so, no more nighttime accidents. Something about the way body processes the milk. After a few months, I tested this. Gave him lots of water at bedtime, but no accidents. After a few days of this, I gave him milk with dinner and he wet the bed.

I have told this story to several people. For most who tried it with their children, it helped. A few did not notice a difference.

They do have a pill that will help with that at night. My brother went through that when we were little also. One of his sons does the same thing. The doctors put him on something to take at night and it helped. It can be annoying and very frustrating for you but it is probably really embarrassing for him to have to wake up like that in the morning or at night. Good luck with all the information and I hope and pray that you get things resolved with the doctors.

Hello K.

This is actually a case of what is called Enuresis. No Drinks given prior to bed. Could also be related to inflammation of the kidney.

I found this on a message board that were talking about bed wetting.
Ask your doctor to do a CRP test. C-Reative Protein test, it will show how much INFLAMMATION is inside of our bloos vessels.
if you want more info, email me ____@____.com ,

when you took your son to the doc, did they do any xrays or ct scans of the area? I had a male cousin that wet the bed and they took him to the doc who ran tests and discovered that the tube going into and out of the bladder was too short. once he had the corrective surgery he didn't have the problem any longer.
