Help Me Fix My Beautiful Fuzzy New Towels

For Christmas my children bought me a big, soft, fuzzy, burgandy towels and wash cloth set. Exactly what I asked for. What I didn't ask for is all the lint. I've washed them numerous times but I still get little burgandy lint all over the place. In fact, one evening after my shower I used an astringent on my face and the cotton ball was covered in tiny burgandy lint. It's all over my body, my face, my shower, and my bathroom, not to mention the lint filter in the dryer. Besides washing them a few hundred more times, how do I get the lint out? Any suggestions? Otherwise, I love my towels.

Thanks in advance for your help mamas!

So What Happened?

@Nikki G, I've washed them about 6 or 7 times since Christmas. They're going into the washer again today. I found burgandy lint on my deodarent the other day. sigh.

Honestly...

I spent $80 PER towel to fix that problem.
As in, buying reeeeally nice towels.
They're 12 years old... Most of them...
And are identical to the new ones I bought last year.

My mum has some green towels, washed once a week for 5 years, that STILL give off lint (and are about half their volume). Some towels are just poorly woven.

Are they 100% cotton?

If not, you may continue to have this problem..

If they are 100% cotton, use laundry detergent, but never, ever use fabric softner or dryer sheets. If you have been using fabric softner.. it i going to take many washings to get the chemicals out of the towels..

Do you know who the manufacture of these towels are? I would look them up online and see what they suggest.

I know at the stores I have worked at, if you were not pleased, we would take them back.. and exchange them for a different set of towels.

UGH... my Mom has towels like that.
And after HUNDREDS of washings, they still give off so much lint.
Poor, quality.
I told her just use it for rags or throw it away.
Its terrible quality.
AND it takes FOREVER to dry.

Do not put in fabric softener, do not use dryer sheets. Dry them normal. See if the lint filter is full about half way through. If it is make sure to clean it and let the towels finish drying.

I have 4 yellow beach towels that were custom made with a team logo. They are fuzzy, soft and were not cheap. It has been TWO YEARS and I still have to wash them in a separate load because the dye still bleeds (even though the towels are not the least bit faded!) and the amount of lint is still crazy and will clog the dryer screen.

Basically you have crappy towels, just like I do. It probably won't get any better.

Try skipping the fabric softener. Or just buy beige (skin) colored towels like I do!

I generally wash new towels about 3-5 times before I even use them. I just wash them in the shortest cycle and put them in the dryer and repeat. We have new towels that are several weeks old now and stopped leaving lint. Ours were black and maroon, so the lint was very noticeable the first time I dried my body with them. But I just used a different towel for my face and now the new ones are not linty anymore.

I had that problem with towels. I had PURPLE lint all over me!

Wash them with vinegar as the rinsing agent instead of fabric softener. I just pour vinegar in the fabric softener container.

I heard putting them in the freezer can help. I had a sweater that used to shed all over the place and my friend said to put it in the freezer overnight. I figured it couldn't hurt so I did. After it was in the freezer I washed it and it never shed again. Go figure!

I think you gotta wash towels several times before you can use them, to get that lint off. How many times hav eyou washed them?
