Thursday is our wedding anniversary and we're still kinda new to the area so I don't have any bright ideas about how to celebrate. I have a sitter and I do have dinner reservations, but I don't know what to do after that. I'd like to go somewhere that we can enjoy each other, rather than to a movie where we stare at a screen for a couple of hours. I'd love some creative ideas. What do ya'll do here? It's been so long since I had a night out just with him that I'm drawing a total blank. Thanks!

So What Happened?

Wow! You all really came through for me! Now I have ideas for future date nights! We started the night off at Benihana, our anniversary tradition, and the food was so yummy! We sat at a table with a lot of other people, which isn't intimate, but was a blast! I love sharing meals with new people, it's never boring! Then we went to the Tempe Improv, thank you Dawn! DL Hughley is in town this weekend, and he is FUNNY!!!! The two who came on before him were also really funny, I haven't laughed that hard in SOOOO long! He was a nice guy, and we even got a picture with him! My husband was thrilled, which made my day, it's always difficult to find that perfect gift. We were having too much fun to go home, so we got some ice cream and then went to a movie! I slept through the whole thing, but it was fun nonetheless. We are both pretty tired this morning, but I haven't been this content in so long. I realized last night that this was the first time we've really been out since we moved here last November! Now we've made a pact to have at least one night out a month, and I'm already looking for ward to it. Thank you again for your suggestions, I plan to do them all at some point!

There is a place in Ahwatukee called "As You Wish" where you can go and paint pottery. It's on the south side of Ray, just west of the I-1O. It's really fun and they have all sorts of things you can buy to paint. It's something kind of different to do together. You don't even have to be artistic to have fun! =) Hope you get some great ideas, and happy anniversary!

I don't know if you like comedy clubs, but the Tempe Improv is a lot of fun! They have a website, and usually the Thursday night shows don't sell out. I think the website is tempeimprov.com. I know it's a drive to Tempe, but it's a lot of fun, especially if that's something you like to do. And what's more fun than laughing together - we all take ourselves way too seriously! ;o)

S.,
Happy Anniversary! My husband and I live in Gilbert and love to go pottery painting together for our date nights! He is not very artistic, but it always keeps us having fun and engaged in lively and quiet conversation away from our three lovable monsters, plus we get to take something home to share with the family to remember the day. We have painted plates, bowls, mail holders, and dessert bowls for the house. We once made a soap dispenser and toothbrush holder which we still use! It is really a lot of fun and only takes a few hours. Try Creative Hands Studio at Gilbert Town Center (Gilbert just south of Warner), Mind Over Splatter in Chandler (downtown area off Arizona Ave.) or As You Wish off Satpley and US 60 by AMC theaters. Have fun!

Well, you can go to the Hyatt Regency Hotel http://www.theater168.com/ at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale. They have gondola rides there for a decent price and it is very romantic, the gondolier sings the whole time while he rows you around the beautiful resort. Call and see if you need to set a reservation ###-###-####. They also have an Italian Restaurant there that gives you free gondola ride passes if you eat at that restaurant. The gondoliers expect tips just FYI. The grounds at that hotel are to die for, it is enjoyable just walking around the grounds and the pool area. Also there is a CLEAN comedy club (no cussing or inuendoes) that is all improv, called Theater 168 or Jesterz in Scottsdale. www.theater168.com Very enjoyable and you need reservations there as well. Good luck, and congratulations.

It would really depend on how fancy you are going for your dinner. Something that my husband and I have done was to go miniature golfing at Golfland on Country Club. We actually spent some time at the waterpark this year too; and it was great fun to just be able to have fun and not worry about where your kids are.

During the summer, there are some outdoor summer concerts in a few communities. I would recommend checking out a few cities chamber of commerce website to see if they have anything for Thursday.

You might try the Arizona Science Center - they have some entertaining exhibits, but I admit I'm not sure what their hours are. I would also see what's playing at the Mesa Arts Center. They always have a wide variety of programs going on so there may be something there that you would find interesting. Or if you want to be more active, there's always bowling or karaoke or you could go someplace like Fiddlestix or Castles and Coasters for mini golf or go carts and enjoy the child in yourselves and each other. Have fun!

Usually Tempe Towne Lake, or even down-town Chandler, have weekend or evening concert series to where you could sit outside for free while enjoying each other and some music.

I know my hubby and I usually go to a show after dinner because we get enough "talk" time over an extended dinner. Being at a show allows us to just enjoy being with each other without having to worry about what to say.
