I am having the hardest time finding things my 16 month old son will actually eat. He loves fruit and he likes a few veggies, but it is like pulling teeth to get him to eat a main course! He likes mac n cheese, grilled cheese, cheesy rice (noticing a theme here??? ) He won't eat hotdogs or really any meat by itself. He isn't super crazy about sandwiches either. Do any of you have any easy meal ideas that my toddler might eat -- especially for lunch??

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks you so much for the suggestions so far! I love the idea of mixing in some meat with his mac n cheese or grilled cheese. Maybe he won't notice :) Keep those suggestions coming!!

If you'll email me at my website http://www.missbrenda.com , I'll send you a list of food suggestions for this age child. It lists measurements and ideas for the different food groups. If anything, it might help you think of things you've forgotten about.

Since he likes cheese, maybe try quesadillas? Just tortillas and cheese. My sons liked these. Or maybe serve cheese sauce with other foods to dip it in. What about a cheeseburger? The ones at fast food places might be a good place to try since their meat patties are so thin. When my son was that age, I'd put a couple slices of ham in his grilled cheese sandwich. I just did one or two slices so he couldn't really taste it and I made sure they were hidden in the cheese so he couldn't see it. They also liked seasoned ground beef like in Hamburger Helper or taco meat. Meatloaf was another food they liked a lot.

If your son loves cheese, then try to hotdog with chees on top of it. My son loves cheese as well and gets a lot of meals with cheese sprinkled on top or melted. For the most part he eats some of it. Try mixing small portions (small pieces as well) of meat in his cheesy meals. My son for a while was not crazy about sandwiches but now he eats them when I make them. If he sees me eating something, he usually wants it. Hopefully this helps!

I know both Costco and Sams carry Dino chicken nuggets (0 trans fat). My picky almost 4 year old loves them - the only other nuggets she'll eat are Chic Fil A! Also, not a main course, but extremely healthy are edamame (soy beans). I know Sams usually carries big bags and I also just found them in the freezer section at Super Target. My oldest daughter also likes the Chicken Cordon Bleus we buy at Costco (breaded chicken stuffed with ham and cheese) - not the lowest in fat, but if you're desparate...:)

Hi H.! My mom said my brother and I were just like that and the doctor told her to feed us what we'd eat so we ate, mac and cheese, mini corn dogs, pizza, pb&j, hot dogs, spaghetti, chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes, green beans, pudding, soups, vienna sausages, tortillas and cheese, rice and cheese, pickles. In the freezer section of grocery store there's all kinds of "mini" pizza, corn dogs, little things for tots. Oh yeah, tater tots, french fries. My cousin boils pasta or ravioli and puts a little olive oil on it for her son. Kids like it simple and don't like stuff to be mixed like casseroles or anything. But once we got older, we widened our selection. Oh and we always got vitamins. Hope this helps!
