I would like for the new Alpha Omega convertible car seat I just bought to be correctly installed. Is it true that I can go to any police station for that purpose? Do I just pull up there or do I need to make an appointment? I'm clueless. I live in Dallas, I was wondering where I need to go. Any advice you can give me is appreciated!

What can I do next?

I had a hard time getting a straight answer from anyone when I called the police station to find out. After much searching I went to University Park Audi at 5033 Lemmon Avenue. There is a lady there names Kacy Hendricks that is certified to install car seats. She was very helpful - her number is ###-###-####. You have to call to make an appointment. Hope this helps!

I don't think it is any Police Station. When I had my son I had to call a few and ended up at the Fire Station. Not all of the firemen or police officers are "certified". You might want to call and make sure that someone is there that can help. They also don't install it for you. They teach you and help you. I was glad that I went in and asked for help.

Good Luck.

I know for a fact that not all Dallas Police stations can help. There are only a few people who are certified and they usually are available at community fairs, etc. You might call Presbyterian Hospital. They have a person trained to help with this.

You can also go to most fire stations. The emergency techs have training in correct car seat installation.

We had our car seats installed by the Irving PD but I am sure Dallas does the same thing. If they don't you can contact Irving PD at ###-###-#### Officer Greg Spivey helped us. They have a station close to Royal and 635. The address is 5992 Riverside Dr. Irving 75039. You do need an appt. Some other useful websites are www.aap.org/family/carseatguide.htm

Contact Children's Medical center and have them install it for you, rather than trying to go to a police station. The staff that does carseat inspections and installations are certified. (Not all people at police stations and fire stations are CPST certified)

Some car dealerships do this. I have a Volkswagen and they have a trained person on staff who was able to check mine while I was in getting an oil change. I don't know if you need to have the same make of car as the dealership, but you might call around.

I took mine to a fire station. However, you should know that not all fire stations offer this feature, and not all EMTs are trained. I discovered this when I lived in Richardson after the birth of my first daughter. The Richardson fire station did not offer this and the closest one that did was in Rowlett. They were very helpful and did a great job. Two fire stations in Rowlett have trained installers, which is nice because they usually work every 3 days and you gotta catch them when they aren't on a call. I would DEFINITELY call ahead of time to ask 1) are there any trained individuals at the station and 2) is that trained individual working today and 3) when is the best time to come see that person? Good luck!

Andrea,

I also heard the Fire Station can also install your car seat as well. I'm sure you can just pull in without any kind of an appointment and just ask if they have a few minutes to help with your car seat. Good Luck.
