I am a RN in a ENT clinic at AR Children's Hospital. Sometimes they don't like the feeling of the water in their ears after tubes are placed, but they usually get used to it.(YES, it's okay to get water in the tubes!) You don't have to use ear plugs, but can if you prefer. One of our drs. recommends you put a drop or two of Ciprodex or Floxin after a lot of water gets in their ears just as a preventative measure and to keep the tubes open and clear. It may just take some time getting used to the feeling. On another note and as a mother of 3, kids sometimes go through a stage when they're scared of the water getting into their eyes, nose, or ears, and he may just so happened be going through that. I would probably try plugs until he's comfortable in the tub again and thinks of it as fun again, then try without after a couple weeks and see how he does. good luck!
