I had the same thing happen to me when we were moonlight bowling. Some friends told me to put put the detergent in before any clothes and let the water aggitate a little bit. Never had the problem again, it might help!
My husband DJ's and everytime he goes to work he gets the spots showing up on his clothes because of the Neon Lights. Does anyone have any suggestions for washing clothes that makes these not show up? I don't use liquid softener I just use regular degergent.
Thanks... Sounds like I can't do laundry. I'm in such a rush most of the time and just toss the clothes in and then add the detergent. I've done the last couple of loads of laundry putting the water in first and detergent that way but I don't think anything my husband wore recently was in those loads. And I know its not stuff from your Body, Urine or whatever the one suggested cuz it happens pretty much at any type of glow in the dark place or bar we go to. Thanks again for the help :)

That has happened to me before, it is the detergent! Put the detergent in while the washer is filling. Don't put the clothes in until washer is half full that will allow the detergent to mix with the water and dilute before it touches the clothes.
Good luck!
That is from putting your laundry detergent on top of the clothes. Put your soap in first, let in mix with the water, then put your clothes in.
I would try Shaklee's all natural Laundry products, I personally use and love them and they are great! They also sell a product call Basic H2 which is a degreaser that you can put in the laundry as well, to help with different issues.
These products are highly concentrated and save you money. Their 64oz Laundry(member price) is $24.60 which amounts to 38.4 cents per load, Tide and Ivory Snow are about 1-1.5 cents more per load, besides the fact that you are cutting back on garbage in the landfill and less trips to the store. The H2 is an all purpose, natural non-toxic cleaner/degreaser that comes in a 16 oz bottle that is equal to 48 gallons when mixed, for $10.15(member price), Fantastik would cost $2.59 and when compared gallon per gallon would cost $10.36/per gallon, H2 is $.21 cents per gallon. Please let me know if you have any questions! To purchase these products visit, if you would like to purchase please visit, www.shaklee.net/bowerman
Good Luck!
My brother DJ'd for a long time and I worked in bars when I was much younger. I've never heard of this. Have you tried switching your detergent? Does he always wear the same shirt? Can he try a different shirt? Do you use a dryer sheet? Try changing that. Is he sweating in his shirt and that is showing as splotches? Do they appear immediately?
You should use less detergent, or change the brand. Here is what I found:
"Laundry detergent glows under UV light because phosphors are added so that when the clothes are in sunlight they appear brighter." Not all detergents contain these optical brighteners.

"Some of the whiteners in detergent work by making your clothing a bit fluorescent. Even though clothing is rinsed after washing, residues on white clothing cause it to glow bluish-white under a black light. Blueing agents and softening agents often contain fluorescent dyes, too. The presence of these molecules sometimes causes white clothing to appear blue in photographs."
Hope this helps.

It is from using too much detergent or pouring it directly on the clothes. Put detergent in first then the clothes once the water has become a few inches. Happy washing! LOL :P
Did you try a paste of baking soda and water scrubbed in with a small brush? You could also try fresh sliced lemon rubbed over the spots. Lemon is a natural bleach.
I agree with Mary, make sure your detergent is completely dissolved in the washer before adding clothes. I have seen this same problem when we cosmic bowl on denim.
Have you tried filling up your washing machine first with some water then add the detergent, and then the clothes? This allows the detergent to evenly distribute in the water and not soak into clothes.
Only think I can think of is to mix the detergent into the water before adding clothes. I thinks sometimes the detergent doesn't rinse all the way out when it is poured directly on the clothes.
Don't pour your liquid detergent right on the clothes. Pour it in the water first, then add the clothes. Good luck!
There are optical brighteners in most commercial laundry detergents, try an organic detergent and see if that helps. One I recommend is Ecos, found at Whole Foods, fruitful yield or now even the organic section of some grocery stores(Jewel has it) Trader joe's also has their own brand of natural detergent
The neon lights don't cause spots - they help the spots come out and show themselves better. It's usually human caused liquids that neon or black lights bring out. For example, if you take a black light to your carpet at home the urine from a cat or dog will show up in a vibrant glow. I'm not suggesting your husband has urine on him! HA!! However, there are many things that make spots like that appear - sweat, drool, perfumes/colognes, lipstick, detergent - even a chemical that some of the DJ's spray out onto the crowd in dance clubs to make the dancers "light up". Some DJ's use Silly String and that also leaves stains.
My suggestion is to go to a show and watch what your husband does carefully at the back of the room or something. The next day examine the shirt and see where the spots appeared. If it's nothing that's happening on the dance floor, it has to be the detergent showing up from your laundry.
Good luck!
Do not pour detergent directly on clothes. Pour it into the tub while filling, after it's at least 1/2 full then add clothes. HTH

don't know about blue lights but there is a product called Yellow Out which removes yellowish stains from hard water on whites that bleach does not. However it removes all color so is not for colored garments, only whites.
