Hawaii Hotels for Family?

We are considering taking our children to Hawaii for a summer vacation. I am not particular about which island (although we have been to Oahu-w/o children-and would like to look at a different island). I would like to find a condo-type unit to stay in (kitchen, possibly washer/dryer), etc. I am also trying to keep the cost reasonable (under $150-$200/night). Does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks!

What can I do next?

We went to Hawaii (Oahu) for almost a month 2 summers ago. We sublet a married student housing apartment from some BYU Hawaii students and paid only $550 for the whole month. It was great because we had everything we needed. There was only one bedroom but our girls slept in the living room. It's wonderful up on the Northshore of the island in the summer...very uncrowded and relaxing.

We have gone to Hawaii, - Kona (big Island) three times, Oahu three times, Maui twice, Kaui once and Molaki (sp) all with our kids. They are now three yrs and 14 months. We liked staying at the condos on the big island (Kona). You can find some on www.redweek.com and sign up to see the weekly rentals. We stayed up north at the Hilton Village and the Hilton Grand Vacation Club (awesome condos) at Waikoloa. The condos have washer dryers and full kitchens so you don't have to eat out all the time.

I personally think that the big island is the best for families. There is a lot to do on the island as far as sight seeing or if you just want to hang out at the beach there is a great public beach right by the Marriott resort, north of Kona at Waikoloa.

What ever you choose have a great time. We just got back from Kona last week and had a great time.

I have some friends who run a B&B apartment on Maui. It is in Makawao, which is "upland", i.e. a really cute little town about 1/2 way up the volcano. It is very convenient to the airport and most beaches around the island.

I'm not trying to sell you anything :) It's just an option to look into!

It looks like their website is being remodeled, but here is one with the info and a bunch of pictures.

Call your local travel agency, there are tons of properties where they are time shares and different families have them up at different time. I went to Kauai and Princeville is a kind of subdivision (if you will) and it has everything from top notch high end homes to smaller cabin type homes to hotels. It is absolutely beautiful! On Kauai there is no public transportation, you have to rent a vehicle but you can get to so many cool beaches that aren't over crowded, they have snorkelling and so on. I love Oahu as it has a lot of family type activities, it is only $60 I believe to island hop so maybe divide up your trip. Kauai is where they filmed Jurrasic park and parts of Lost, it is a lot more uncommercialized then Oahu by far! Have fun, it is such a pretty place to got! Lucky family!

Turtle Bay resort is a great place to stay on Oahu on the North Shore. If you have already done the busy town of Waikiki you might love the relaxing country side. The hotel has a waterslide and great swimming area for the family.

Hi! We love Maui. It isnt as crazy as Oahu and has so much to offer. Great snorkeling, beaches, the Sugar Cane Train ride for your son, Fun shopping in Lahaina, the Aquarium, parasailing, glass bottom boat rides, sailing, Luaus (The Old Lahaina Luau is the best). We like to stay in the Kapalua/Kaanapali area (as you are not far from Lahaina), but there are condos that are less expensive in the Kihei Area. You might want to check out http://www.cyberrentals.com/USA/Hawaii/r35.htm and put in areas Kihei, Kapalua and Kaanapali and see if you find something you like. (Luckily for us, my sister owns a place in Kapalua but it rents out for $400+). Enjoy! Aloha!

P.S. For Package Deals (not sure they have condos but may have hotel rooms with kitchenettes) with air, hotel and car, you might want to check out http://www.pleasantholidays.com/PleasantHolidaysWeb/Hawai...
