I have a friend who just had a baby boy a week ago and they had a really hard delivery. it last 24hours and then decided to take him by c-section. He was then taken saturday to a childrens hospital because of having seizures. they have ran a bunch of tests and they have all come back normal. they don't know whats going on and my friend is very frantic about it. please if have been in this situation or know someone who has please try and help us figure this out. There was no fever so we aren't sure whats going on. they are still doing tests and he is continuing to have seizures

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well they ran some more tests on the baby and said he's doing fine. So they should get to go home soon. thank you everyone who took the time to let me know your situations.

So are the test showing that they are not seizures? We though our daughter had a seizure and it sure did look like it (my aunt has them). The Dr.'s ran all kids of test and CAT scans but it showed that everything was fine. She was in the hospital for a week and they monitored her and saw her do it many times and that is why they kept doing the tests, no one knew what to think. It turned out to be nothing but Acid Reflux and they put her on Zantack and a APNEA monitor. I know this is not much help.....but the Dr.'s were stummped.

my son didn't start having seizures until he was 15 months old and they started out as fever seizures--the non fever ones showed up later. My son had a very long and difficult delivery--stuck in the birth canal and had to be extracted by forceps; we wonder to this day if something just got squeezed wrong and caused the seizure disorder that he still has today.

The brain is an amazingly complex organ and it responds to things that happen in one's life in odd ways. Seizures are a very common thing--just ask about anyone you know and they will know someone who had fever seizures or a seizure disorder (epilepsy). Neurologists are very intelligent people and I'm sure they are doing everything they can for your friend's son.

Perhaps none of this info is really helping you, but I think your friend is in good hands. Be a friend to her in this extremely difficult time. She will need someone to cry with, be angry with, and hopefully be relieved with when this comes to a resolution of some kind. Good friends are the best in the tough situations of our life . . .

Good luck!

My sister in law had almost the exact same problem with her little girl. Her little girl struck a high fever which then caused her to have a seizure. With her too, they did tests and everything came back normal. Turns out her daughter gets fevers real easily and they have to make sure it doesn't happen to quickly too high.

I had seizures as a baby. They're called febrile seizures and lots of kids have them, though they don't know why. Years later my g-ma told my mom that my dad had them, but she didn't tell anyone because she wanted him to have a military career. They go away by the time the child is 5. Of course, the doctor's scared the crapout of my mom and had me on phenobarbytal, but tell Mom not to worry as long as the tests come back normal. Maybe she could ask her family members if their babies had it.
