Hi,
I just switched OB/GYN's and the only hospital they deliver at is Southdale Fairview..Has anyone delivered there and if so, how was your experience? Thanks!
I have had 3 friends deliver there - great experience for all of them.
I delivered twice at Fairview Southdale, and was very pleased. It is a very friendly hospital with a great staff. The only downside is the food, Thank God for the great restaurants surronding the hospital. You can even have pizza delivered. Delivery is on floor 2 and if overcrowded, they may transfer you to another floor-which with the first happened with me, and I did not like that as much, as there was no shower in my room. Overall I thought they were great!
I delivered my second child there a year and a half ago and was satisfied with the level of care I received. My previous delivery had been at Methodist and the OB/GYN said there were issues with that hospital making them switch exclusively to Fairview Southdale.
I thought the care I received from the nurses was great overall. I felt comfortable letting my daughter sleep away from me and they promptly brought her back to nurse. And if it matters for your husband, the bed for guests was much more comfortable than Methodist - my husband slept a lot more this time around.
Hi M.- I delivered at Fairview Southdale with my first child about 3 years ago and will deliver there again in August. I had a great experience-my doctors group only delivers there also. What group are you with? I think there are going to be differing opinions on this b/c I had this when I asked around-some had great experiences and some not. I did hear they are redoing the maternity area this summer sometime which is great b/c it needs to be updated like some of the area hospitals.

M.,
I had two babies at Fairview Southdale (both by c-section). I think that it is an excellent hospital and the nursing staff there is outstanding. You are in very good hands. Good Luck!
I delivered here 2 years ago with my son and will be going there again later this summer. I had a great experience and the nurses were all very nice.
I delivered my daughter there in 2001 (actually, tomorrow it will be exactly 5 years ago, because it's her birthday!) I delivered on the last day of the nursing strike, so my experience might be a little different, but I was very pleased. I got pain medicine on a regular schedule (at Methodist they told me AFTER I had missed a dose that I needed to ask for it) and I had an emergency c-section and felt that everyone was very quick with everything that needed to be done. I would deliver there again!
I had a fabulous experience there last February delivering my son. The nurses are all fantastic and really love what they do. The anesthesiologist came in 15 min. for my epidural. (I'm sure this doesn't always happen, but I appreciated it.) I would definitely have the next baby there. Also, I found the family / parenting classes to be helpful, albeit long-winded at times.
