Hi ladies..... I need ideas for Birthday parties. My sister has a 5 yr old boy turning 6, he is in Kindergarten. So she is going to invite kids from his class. His B-day is 1 week before Halloween. She was thinking of having it at her house and decorating it for Halloween and having the kids dress up. She needs cheap and somewhat simple ideas on what to do, games, ect. She was thinking of letting kids make there own candy apples, and having a pinata. What else can she do? Fun Meal ideas? I have a 21 month old that will be 2, one week before thanksgiving. I am going to do something at my house as well. I am going to invite just family, but have lots of kiddos still coming. What kind of fun things can I do, same thing simple and cheap. Does not have to be "thanksgiving" just any ideas. Thanks for any ideas
have them paint baby pumpkins. provide some yarn and fabric for hair, construction paper, glue, glitter, finger paints. They will have a li'l punkin to take home so no need for a treat bag.
we are doing a monster party for baby's first. He's born on the 13th, we are having the party on the 2nd so it doesn't interfere with Halloween proper.

make your own monster (stuffed pillows from Oriental trading).

My grandsons birthday is on halloween. they do a lot of fun parties. I would skip the caramel apples. you will have caramel in kids hair on their clothes etc. big mess. the dressing up thing is fun have them come dressed up and have a parade up and down your block. let the neighbors know so they can be outside to cheer etc. its always fun.

put the clothespin in the jug
crafts are fun if you have the space (buy brown paper bags at a craft store and give them glue, glitter, markers crayons etc let them go to town making a bag to use for trick or treating
food stuff
easy finger foods are best
chicken nuggets, pizza, hotdogs, chips, fresh fruit
my daughter always does cupcakes instead of a big cake as it is easier for the kids to eat. dixie cups for the ice cream, no muss no fuss
for the thanksgiving one
make hand turkeys and let the kids use glue sticks to glue on feathers or use markers etc. let them make collages of the horn of plenty. give each kid a cut out of a cornucopia and then let them paste or color in the fruits they would liek to have. or they can cut out pictures of stuff in magazines and make their own collage to then laminate into placemats to use on thanksgiving day.
have a MONSTER MASH.. Let the kids come in their halloween costume. There are some really fun stuff you can get for cheap at oriental trading company. Look them up online.

My girlfriend and I usually put our brains together and do cookies and cupcakes decorating party for the kids at Christmas, but this year we're doing fall festivities :)
Make plain sugar cookies and cupcakes, then set out an array of icing (use food coloring to make fall colors), sprinkles, writable frosting gel, and don't forget the candy corn and popcorn balls! Then let them decorate to their little hearts content.
Since that usually goes pretty fast (and that's a LOT of sugar going on), we do non-food things too. For Halloween, we're letting the kids make 'floating specimens' in jars... go to Party City and get a bag of small assorted 'creepy things' (eye balls, bugs, bats, whatever)... each kid gets a mason jar. Use a small piece of tape and tape a short piece of clear fishing wire to the creepy thing, then the other side to the bottom side of the jar top... screw it in, looks like it's floating! OOOH CREEPY!! ;)
We're also doing the usual punch bowl with the hand shaped ice cube (make ice in a rubber glove, then cut it off when it's frozen), the 'dirt cups' (crushed chocolate cookies with gummie worms)... stuff like that.

A dress up party sounds great, but some parents might have a problem with it being before Halloween. They might not have costumes yet or the costumes can get dirty at the party. I would just send my kid in an old costume, but some might have a problem with it. For the Halloween party I would play pin the spider on the web.
My baby shower was in October and we went with a fall (little pumpkin) theme. You can have a guessing game with leaves in a jar. My guests got mini pumpkin muffins from costco as a favor. You can make turkey handprint crafts with feathers and paint or crayons.
You could hire a Magician, it would be fun for all ages including adults.
