My son's birthday is the same week of Halloween and I cannot wait until he is old enough because I love the old fashioned things: contest for best costume, sack races, apple bobbing in a large bin, wheel barrow races (one person holds the legs of another), and if you don't have a budget...renting a pony for pony rides.

I don't get into the goulish aspect of Halloween, so I decorate in pumpkins and the colors - orange, black, white.

I love the idea of caramel apples, but I wouldn't let a ton of kids playing with caramel in my house (ha!)...I saw an idea to "size down" caramel apples. Scoop small balls from apple, dip in caramel, then put a stick through. Bite-sized and still yummy.

I hope he has a great party!

I did the ice hands in food safe gloves and then put them in punch. W e also used the same gloves for snacks. We put candy corn in the finger tips and then filled the rest of the hand with popcorn.

You could do a make your own caramel apple station for your party favor. I'm sure it would be pretty easy and there are so many fancy caramel apples on the market now to get inspiration from! I would get the apples and the sticks done before hand and then put out bowls of melted caramel, melted chocolate and things like sprinkles, M&Ms, peanuts, etc. Let the boys make their creations near the beginning of the party and then while they're playing (and after they set of course) you could bag them in some clear plastic bags and send them home at the end.

You culd aslo give a prize for the best costume. Have the bday boy pick or have the party goers vote and put their votes inside a plastic pumpkin and then hand out a prize. You could blindfold them and have them give them halloween candies that they have to taste (probably keep it to only a few since they'll already be overloaded with sweets) and whoever gets the most wins a prize. Bandanas are super cheap at Oriental Trading or US Toy or just use strips of fabric.

For old favorites you can always do relay races or hot potato (with a foam pumpkin), or pin the fangs on the dracula!

Have fun, sounds super fun!

Check out the familyfun.com website- they have a whole bunch of great halloween recipes for kids- we have made a bunch of them including the mummy bread and the skull cupcakes. Three of my children have an oct. birthday and last year we played a fun game that is similar to bobbing for apples but with donuts tied to a long pole(we used a broomstick) with string. Two adults hold the stick up high so the donuts are dangling over kids and they have to eat them without using their hands- was lots of fun but messy- do it outside. Have fun!

We made a pinata out a brown bag and painted orange for a pumpkin. We also had freeze dance, drop the close pin and relay races tehy ahd a great time. I would be a little careful about anything messy/gluey that might get on costumes the day before Halloween. Have a great party!

Hi V.,
Im a kid at heart and I love Halloween!. Fun ,no carve crafts for kids is to decorate their own small pumpkins or masks. Get foam shapes to glue on or markers to draw on as well as small craft hats, ears, yarn for hair etc.. Kids can take them home after the party. Make a "gore" station where kids are blind folded and touch eyeballs ( pealed grapes) or brains ( jello ) stomache guts (spagettii) Its halloween , have some fun!

Hi V.,

How fun! I wrote a "How to Throw a Kids Halloween Party" guide last year that I am now trying to convert into a Kids Halloween Party Entertainment Kit, that I would sell. I would be happy to send you the party guide I wrote, which includes receipes for food, decorations ideas, invitation ideas, games and activities, and party giveaways. Selfishly, if you do want it, I would love to get your feedback after you read it, to let me know if you liked it and if it was helpful.

If you're interested, shoot me an email at ____@____.com. Thanks!
