Ok My hair is long like maybe 2 to 3 inches past my shoulders. I have never had my hair this long in my life. I am getting kind of freaked out because every time I grab my hair and pull it into a pony tail I grab a fist full of hair. I have a bunch of lose hair all around the house and on my pillow. Am I going bald, is this normal to lose long hair like that? I am worried, has anyone else with long hair experienced this?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Oh my gosh thanks so much for all your stories. Now I don't feel like I am going bald. I had no idea that was normal. With my first son who is 15 months now, I never lost hair like that after him. but then again I had short hair when I had him. Thanks so much. I will keep on the look out for bald spots though lol. I am sure I will be fine. Thanks again everyone!

My hair is probably a little longer than yours, and very curly, but not thick. I lose a TON of hair, all the time, and I always have. Every time I pick through it, I rip out a bunch. I shed random hairs. But I have yet to notice a bald patch in all my life!

I think the average person loses about 100 hairs a day, and that's normal.

I've had long hair my entire life... "Handfuls" sounds excessive and you might want to ask your doctor about it, but I do know that my random long hair is ALL OVER the house all the time. It gets on my husband's clothes, my clothes, we have to clean out the tub drain all the time because it clogs it ups. About six months ago I cut my hair pretty short (for me) - just above my shoulders - and it didn't seem to fall out nearly as much. It hasn't been nearly as bad, but now that it's getting long again it seems to be coming out more again.

EDIT: I just read that you just had a baby. Oh my goodness, I thought I was going to go completely bald after my baby girl was born! It didn't start happening until she was about 3 or 4 months old. I was losing hair by the handful - so scary. It was really bad, especially up front. My doctor said it was absolutely normal because when you're pregnant you don't lose all the hair you normally do. So, after you have the baby, it's like losing twice as much all at once. It's even worse if you're nursing and stop taking prenatal vitamins. It balances out after a few months. I think it would help to cut it a bit shorter to give it some volume. I'm happy to report that my hair has since all filled back in.

I believe it's normal. My hair does it in the summer for some reason, like shedding a winter coat lol I have no idea. My hair is thick so I don't think it's abnormal unless you notice a big change like bald spots, etc. Stress can make your hair fall too. Also when your hair is longer it is heavier. My hair doesn't fall out during the day but I grab some hair that fell out of my head in the shower or when I brush it to put it up or whatever. If it's alot of hair every single time you put it up pop over to the doctor to make sure your all good.

Have you recently had a baby or weaned a baby from nursing? Alot of women (including myself) lose handfuls of hair after a delivery or discontinuing breastfeeding due to hormones. If this is the case, don't worry, it will slow down eventually.

A. when I send your care package I will send you a few samples of our Thermal Fusion for the scalp it will help but all the stress and surgery's and new baby stuff is causing it. You have had sooooo much on your plate not to mention being in another Country so far away from your family :(

A., you just had a baby three months ago. For most people, there is a lot of hair loss that starts about three months after having a baby. The worst of the hair loss lasts for about three months, and then a couple of months after that, your hair will begin to grow in again.

So within about a year, your hair should be back to its normal thickness.

Oh yeah, you're losing all that hair from your 'baby hair'. Totally normal!! My hair was so beautiful when I was pregnant, thick and glossy. After my first pregnancy I was a bit freaked when it started falling out, but it was only excess hair. You are not going bald!!
