I had the same thing, at exactly the same time. My son is almost 6 mo old and its finally stopped- but now I have half the hair I used to have. It'll grow back- don't worry!

I lost my hair until my son was about a year old. Now I've got all these short hairs that won't stay in a ponytail, and the worst part is, some of them grew back in GRAY!

Hi H.,

I had the same problem after I had my daugheter. It is an aweful thing to go thru, I even went to the doctor. I currently take a hair vitaman that really helps. I know my hair loss was so yucky and seem to last 6 months until it slowed down. If you are interested in learning more about the vitam send me a message or if you want more details. ____@____.com

I thought I was going to go completely bald. My hair kept falling out when my daughter was 4-5 months old. Every time I washed my hair, dried it, and brushed it hair would come out all over the place. I had to unclog our shower drain daily. It lasted for about a month for me and I'm the only one that even notices a difference in the thickness of my hair from before and after.

H.-
I never lost any hair after either of my pregnency's but I did go through a period of time when I was switching jobs and I started loseing hair but it was caused from stress I ended up with a bald spot and went to the doctor who told me it was Alopica from stress and that it may or may not come back and if it bothered me I could get injections to help it grow back. I would see your doctor about it because I am also a hairstylist and you shouldn't be loseing that much hair (to the point of balding) unless its from another factor then your pregenency. Hope this helps.

My hair fell out for almost six months! Every time I took a shower I would cry. My hair would be everywhere! I started wearing it up alot to try to keep it under control, just remember to change where you put your ponytail and to try to keep it loose in an elastic with no metal, otherwise it will cause breakage and you will lose even more hair. It is finally starting to grow back and is making my fringe stick out because of all of the new growth, but at least it is coming back.

My doctor advised me that hair loss can last up to a year after childbirth. Fortunately I also was cold all the time and my doctor ordered a thyroid test and turns out my thyroid isn't working right and now I am on maintenance meds for the rest of my life. Good news tho.... my hair stopped falling out.

I had the same thing happen. My hairline was actually receding. I actually tried to get rid of as much hair as possible to get throught the phase faster. It took about 2 months and I finally started to grow hair back. It looked weird for a while - spikey hair all around my hairline, but the phase won't last forever. 1If you are concerned about it, you may want to see the doctor, but they say a lot of hair loss is totally normal.

My hair loss started at about 2 months after birth and continued until about 6 months. I have a ton of hair, and it was amazing how much I lost. I had several smaller episodes of it since then, too It is a normal thing, but there can also be other causes for it. Some women's thyroid gets off after pregnancy/birth, and that could cause hair loss. If worried, I'd call your clinic and talk to them.

I went thru that too!!! I lost A LOT and I didn't go bald. It lasted a little under 2 months for me, I think it is different for everyone. Don't worry - you won't go bald!

Best of Luck!

H. I feel your pain. I miss that nice thick hair I had just before my 3 1/2 month old was born. Now, every time I wash my hair I get a comb full when I comb it out and a brush full when I dry it. I can't remember how long it lasts, but I do know after my second child was born my hair never was the same--it was super thin and fine after all the nice pregnancy hair fell out. I don't have any advice on what to do about it. I'm just commiserating with you. :-) I think it takes several months before it stops coming out in clumps.

Hi,
I breastfed until around 4 months, and when I stopped nursing, that's when my hair REALLY began to fall out. My son is now 7 months old, and I think the hair loss stopped about 2 months ago. My stylist told me that I have tons of baby hair all around my scalp, and I'm really noticing baby hairs coming out near my forehead. So, eventually, I'm hoping it will all grow back, but I feel your pain! I decided to chop off my hair, b/c with how think it was getting, it just looked limp and gross longer. Hope yours stops soon! I've heard it's completely related to the hormones in your body.

Yep, sounds exactly like me. My hair started falling out when my daughter was about 4 months old, I mean handfuls of hair. And it didn't stop until she was about 9-10 months old. I thought it just looked like a lot of hair because my hair is long. Well, it was a lot because now it's growing back. My hair looks pretty cool pulled back, with all the little hairs sticking out. I asked my doctor, she said it's perfectly normal. Also a hairstylist said she sees this all the time. It's a small price to pay for our babies, even though it drives us crazy! Good luck!

Hi H.,

If you are actually getting bald spots, you might want to get checked out by the doc. While some hair loss (and it seems like a lot) is normal, another mom I know ended up having anemia. She was exclusively breastfeeding and taking supplements but still needed more iron. She only found out because she went in to get checked after feeling like she was losing too much hair.

Hey, H....

I had some, too. Doc said it was totally normal as your hormones continue to change and return to their pre-prego state. I think for me it was about a month or so. The stylist and doc both said that typically you aren't losing hair you had before you were pregnant. Rather, during pregnancy most women experience their hair getting thicker or fuller...and that's some of what you lose after. If you have more questions, I'd follow up with your ob. I know it's never fun to have to deal with the extra hair everywhere :) but hang in there--it shouldn't last long.
Blessings,
V.

Yes!!!! I remember how scary this was. I would loose clumps of hair and i left a trail everywhere I went. I remember things got better around 5-6months. It just really depends on how thick/think your hair is under regular circumstances. It will stop at some point...i promise!!!!!

you need to have your thyroid checked. if it is low, then you loose hair, feel cold a lot, have dry skin and sometimes feel depressed. It is easily treated with very inexpensive medication.

It takes months to get your hormones back to normal. I've always been a blonde with fine hair and when I was pregnant it came in black, wavy and THICK.. After my dd was born it came out too and started coming back in with blonde and it took probaly 2 years to get my hair back to somewhat normal. My daughter is now 6 years old and my hair has never fully returned to pre-pregnancy hair but it's somewhat close. I lost hair and it just kept coming out which didn't bother me it was to thick. If you losing enormous clumps or getting bald spot see your doctor but if it's just like alot of shedding your fine.

Hey, H.,
I finally cut my hair off because it was EVERYWHERE!! Plus, my lil one was grabbing onto it all the time. I found once I cut it off about 6 inches the fall out was less severe. I too have hair that broke off around my hairline. My stylist assures me it will grow back and is just part of the hormones of pregnancy/nursing. I don't remember all of this happening with my first, but I think it took a good month or 6 weeks of it falling out before I cut it and it seemed to stop. Hang in there.

Don't worry - it lasts about 2 months but can go longer. It is just all that old hair that was hanging by a thread during your pregnancy. Your head will feel lighter for it =:)

Me too! Lost my hair with both kids from the time they were 4 months to about 6 months old. The second one seemed to be much worse, but maybe it was because mine are close together like yours and my hair hadn't really grown back from the first time.

I also had tons of hair fall out after my daughter was born. It was so depressing because I could actually see a bald spot developing. It finally stopped around the time my daughter turned one but sadly my hair hasn't been the same since.
I'm expecting again so my hair isn't shedding but I'm scared to see what happens after this pregnancy. If it's any help my mom had thinning hair several years ago due to the onset of menopause and she used over the counter Rogaine. It made a noticeable difference with her but took about a year to see real results. I plan to go that route if my hair loss is as dramatic this time.
Good luck!
