Hi A.!

I too lost A LOT of hair after my son was born. It was out of control. I clogged the shower like once a week. And I would find my hair everywhere! Once I found a piece in my son's armpit! I actually thought for a second that he was already growing hair there!! I also found a lot in his diaper when I changed him. That's where I also discovered that he was eating it!(we'll just leave it at that....) I had very long thick hair so, for as much as I lost, you couldn't really tell. My mom also had the same problem after all three of us. I think everyone experiences it to some degree. But I did notice someone mention thyroid disease. I was diagnosed with Postpartum Hyperthyroidism about six months after my son was born. I didn't think the hair loss was part of it seeing as it's such a common thing. But if you don't have any other symptoms (things that might even be confused with having a new baby), then I wouldn't worry about it. My hair stopped falling out after about six or seven months. And then you get little hairs sticking out EVERYWHERE which you don't stop noticing for another year or two. Good Luck!

Yes, after my second child it seemed as though I was losing lots of hair. There was also other 'weird' things going on with me that I had not experienced before....one of which was me being extremely tired. I ended up going to the doctor b/c I just did not feel right. Ended up that my thyroid was not working properly...hypothyroidism. I guess this can be common after having a baby. So, if you are having other symptoms I would go get checked out.

Yes. I have long hair and it seemed to get thicker during my pregnancy and thinned back out afterwards. The doctor said it's because of the increase in hormones in your body and also all the vitimins you are taking while you are pregnant.

Are you on the depo shot or anyother birth control??? When ever I was on any type of birth control but it was the worst when I was on the Depo shot my hair would fall out in clumps!! It also affected other things like your previous question!! Maybe you should make an appointment to see your doc and let them know about all your symtoms, there may be a simple solution!! Good Luck!!

Yes. with my son I lost a lot of hair..and it does take time to come in. I actually had some issues with it taking forever to come back until a hairdresser told me about a product called Nioxin. They sell it at beauty salons and it is very expensive but i have used it and it works. I went the other day though to my local salleys just to see if they have something simular and they do for a lot less of a price and she said it works just as good. anyways my hair is coming back even thicker..Hang in there..hope this helps

Unfortunately I too lost a lot of hair about 5-6 months after my son was born. I looked like a guy with a receding hairline! My son will be a year old in April and my hair has started to grow again, but now it looks really akward because I have short (about 1 inch long) bushy hair along the hairline... if it isn't one thing it's another:)

A., yes I did go through that after each of my kids, but it does come back. Now years later my hair is thicker then it ever was. I paniced at the hair loss too, thought I would end up bald, but that didnt happen.Ride it out and just be gental brushing it and washing it.

I am having the same problem. My son is seven months old and my hair started falling out about the fifth month and when I say falling out I mean falling out. I asked my doctor about it and she said it is pretty common and it is because our hormones are changing. I have noticed that it is not falling out as much as it was two months ago so it does slow down but it was very over whelming at first.

I want to "third" the YES! YES! YES! I cried to my hairdresser that I now had a very prominent "widow's peak". She's the one who told me it was normal and that it WILL grow back. It did so don't worry. I think I was still "hormonal" (mine happened 3 months after our daughter was born) so THAT made it worse. Hang in there!

A.,

I'm a mother of two also, and I think after the second child the hair loss seems worse. But it'll stop. Give it a few more months. :-)

I lost so much hair after my daughter was born. She is almost 6 months and I just recently stopped shedding. Luckily I had long thick hair because I lost so much I thought I would be bald!!!

Hi A....I felt that same way!! OMG !! My baby's going to have more hair than I do...how fair is that?? Anyhow...it's the quick change of your hormones. That's what I was told by my doctor...I told him that "he should tell that to my tub drain!" LOL Yes, it will subside again.

You may want to get your thyroid check.. Hair loss is a symptom of thyroid disease. And with all the hormonal changes after having a baby, you never know..

Yes I lost so much hair! I thought something might be really wrong. With my daughter I lost a good amount but with my son it was a lot. It finally slowed down this past month. Before when I took my shower I would have to put the hair that fell out on the shower wall so I wouldn't clog the drain.

YES!! YES!! YES!! Totally normal!!! At 4-5 months post delivery is when it starts for most people. My doc told me that when you are pregnant, your hair grows less. And sheds minimally. Did you, by chance, notice that you didn't have to shave as often??? What a great perk of pregnancy!! But now your scalp has to shed all the hair it was hanging onto. And thus, handfuls of it come out. TONS and TONS and TONS!!! I thought I was going to go bald!!! No need to worry - at all!!

I did its a very common thing. With all of the hormones during pregnacy your body can produce more hair. Post pregnacey the hormons are going back to normal as will the thickness of your hair.
